Dorcella was a good friend to my parents and my brother“s Godmother. I chose her as my Confirmation sponsor as I admired her sense of style and her independence. That woman could pull off a hat! Her voice was unforgettable. My brother and I visited her after we buried our father as she had mobility problems at the time that kept her from the funeral, not realizing she herself would be gone by the end of the year. Thanks to the person who finally let me know, as I live in Virginia and had not received word. She was an important part of all my early life milestone events, as for all my siblings, so generous was she. We tend her grave and those of her parents at All Saints as we do those of other family members because blood is not what makes a person family. May eternal light shine upon her.

On behalf of Food For The Poor, we would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dorcel M. Spengler, who was a true friend of ours and of the poor whom we serve. Dorcel's support has brought lifesaving help and hope to the poorest of the poor, which is a legacy to be honored. May God's peace be with you all during this time of separation.

Ms. Spengler was the greatest woman that ever happened to education. She was very tough, but fair. When I became a Language Arts teacher myself, I used a lot of Ms. Spengler's teaching methods. I always wanted to tell her how much she meant to be, but was afraid she wouldn't remember me and I would be hurt if she didn't. I am going to sing the Preposition Song (to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy) tonight in her memory.

I was just notified of Ms. Spengler 's passing. There are many teachers that a student will come in contact with throughout their academic career....unfortunately sometimes few who leave a lasting impression. Ms. Spengler left a lasting impression on me, one that I will forever be grateful.

Miss Spengler was my fifth grade teacher at Cleveland School. There was no teacher I had during any level of my academic career that was better. I will forever be grateful for her teaching and her spirit.

I was also one of her students, and still recall her fondly. My sympathy to her friends and family.

She was a teacher of mine when I was in middle school. I'll never forget her or her classes. Kind but firm.

I will miss her laughter most. And the times spent with her and my mom.
