Donald Stahl Obituary

Stahl, Donald E. 81, a retired City Colleges of Chicago professor, died on August 19, 2012 at St. Matthew Center for Health, Park Ridge, IL. Mr. Stahl taught in the Chicago schools for 32 years. He began teaching in 1953 at Murphy Elementary School. He taught English and Journalism at Schurz High School from 1958 to 1966 and was also the faculty sponsor of the school newspaper. For 21 years before his retirement in 1987, he taught English at Wright College on the northwest side. His whole professional life was inspired with the desire to promote his best interest of all his students. He attended Nixon Elementary and Kelvyn Park High School and was a graduate of the old Chicago Teachers College, now Chicago State University, and received his Masters and Doctorate Degree from Northwestern University. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the US Army with overseas duty in Korea being discharged as a Corporal. He was an accomplished master woodworker. Beloved husband of Darlene E.; loving brother of Raymond and Joyce McGlade; dear uncle of Thomas (Denise); and great-uncle of James, Jeffrey, and Kaitlin McGlade. Visitation Wednesday, August 22, 3 to 9 p.m. at the Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Hwy. (2 blks S. of Touhy), Park Ridge. Lying in state Thursday, 10 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 260 N. Northwest Hwy., Park Ridge, IL 60068. Interment Mt. Emblem Cemetery. Elmhurst, IL.
