Donald Owen Obituary
Donald Burgit Owen, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 22, 2025. Donald was born in January of 1937 to the late Charles and Marian Owen. He was a talented engineer, educated at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he met the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Carol Griffin. Don delighted in being a father, an uncle, and a grandfather to his loving family. He had a curious mind and a love for tinkering, experimenting, and fixing things around the house. His kindness is reflected through the loving words he spoke often, and the kind words others have shared about him.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Owen and Daniel (Laura) Owen; his grandsons, Liam Owen and Jackson Owen; his brother-in-law, Thomas (Kit) Griffin; his sisters-in-law, Margaret Blaney and Claudette Griffin; his nieces and nephews, Diane Nathan, Lynda Griffin, Steve Griffin, Kevin Griffin, Spiff (Shelby) Griffin, Michael (Linda) Blaney, Peggy Blaney, and Patricia (Tim) McClelland; and his many grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol, née Griffin, Owen; his cherished daughter, Kathleen "Kathy" Owen; his brother, Charles Owen; his brothers-in-law, James Blaney and James Griffin; and his sister-in-law, Mary Owen. The Owen Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Lilibeth Winters and also the team at Harmony Cares Hospice for their loving care over the last year.
Visitation, Friday, June 27, 2025, from 3 to 8 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie. Service and Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org).
