It’s hard to express how much I loved the Everly Bros. I believe I have every album they produced and knew every song in detail. I played them over & over until I knew each one’s harmonies. It was difficult to do on many of their songs.
They , along with Elvis And Rick spurred me on to teach myself to play guitar at age 10
In 1956, I’m proud to say I made pretty good money for a couple of years after the military.
They say you know you’re getting old when your idols start dying, I’m sorry to say I’ve seen too many go.
Rest in peace, brothers, you left quite a legacy of music for us. Thank you Don & Phil.

I first heard The Everly's as a teenager and was lucky enough to see them in concert on several occasions when they toured the UK. It was also a privilege to stay at Everly Hotel on Lake Malone and spend some time with them there before attending their Homecoming Concert. Both of them were gracious enough to spend time chatting and signed my friends guitar. They were fabulous singers, I can honestly say I have listened to their music every day for the past 60 years.Phil's harmony was unmatched by anyone and they are sorely missed. My condolences to Don's family at this sad time but they will live on through their music. What a wonderful legacy.

Don and Phil Everly were the greatest act I ever saw. Met them both in my time. Phil said to me in 1974, ´you know, we really could sing.´ Utterly tongue-tied I could only agree with him. It had to be one of the biggest understatements of all time

My heartfelt condolences are offered to the family, many, many friends, colleagues and devoted army fans of Mr. Don Everly of the Everly Brother. Mr. Don Everly was a country and rock & roll music singer and songwriter for his hit song "Bye Bye Love and Cathy's Clown." He was greatly admired by many fellow artists and all those who knew him. May the love and many, many special memories you shared with your devoted loved one show how much your life was touched by him. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Mr. Don Everly. May his music and legacy keep his memory alive forever.

Although I am a bit younger than most Everly fans, I have loved their music for three fourths of my life. I have seen them seven times in concert and loved each performance! So sad to hear about Don; may he (and Phil) rest in peace. Thankfully we can keep them in our hearts with their music.

My three all time favorite music acts... Elvis, Johnny and now Don & Phil all gone but never forgotten. Fortunately I was able to see them all live in concert. I'll soon be 80 and their music has brought this "old man" lots of happiness and entertainment thru the years. Most of their records in my collection are 45s and yes I listen to them often still. So long, Don... may you RIP.

Don and his brother have been important for me. I'm in tough times since a long time ago. Their music literally helps me to keep going alive(it has prevented me to make suicidal attempts. I don't know if I'd be alive if it wasn't for them) and to continue to live for what I believe. Their music remembers it's possible to make life better if we want. Met their music while playing Mafia 2. The song was "All I Have To Do Is Dream". I'll remember them and what they've done for me during my whole life. Thank you Don. Please thank Phil for me.

I remember traveling in England in 1983 hearing The Everly Bros were playing the Royal Albert Hall. I was so excited they toured again and played the Greek theatre in SoCal. I met both brothers after the show, got autographs. Both were so kind, such class and by far the greatest harmonies ever! We will miss them both but what a legacy of great music they left us!! RIP Don. JE

To this 75-yr-old female, former professional singer, bass player, the importance of the Everly Brothers in the direction of my life
cannot be overstated. I came to Nashville because of them.
I was 12 when I first heard "Bye Bye Love" and I was mesmerized by all of their songs ever after.
My parents, though both musical themselves, didn't encourage my ambition in that direction. But at a crossroads in my life, in 1977, I decided to come to Nashville to pursue a career as a singer.
A week after Merle Travis died (My fiddle-playing grandfather's hero), I was singing and playing a show in Greenville, Ky with my band "Locomotion" when I played a medley of songs in tribute to Don and Phil. A lady named Pam Turner introduced herself, thanked me, and told me her grandmother and Ike Everly were brother and sister. I was thrilled to think Everly relatives were coming to see my show!
I saw the first and third Homecoming reunion concerts in Central City, Ky in 1988 and 1990. Such warm and friendly people!
Though I know it has been a while since Phil's death, while the wounds to Don's family are fresh, I do offer my condolences to both families. Some of the younger of you may never fully realize how important the Everly Brothers were to the direction of music. The tight harmonies and innovative guitar licks have influenced singers, musicians, and songwriters all over the world. I have my 45's and vinyl LP's and CD's and DVD's to remember them by. But an era has passed that I'll remember fondly.

Birds with different feathers*
(in memory of Don Everly)
by Ruth Esther Gilmore
Each bird warbles another tune,
birds with different feathers
and with different hues, look all the same
to an inexperienced eye.
I will encourage all human beings,
engaging together,
to sing and dance
to their each and every own tune,
to piece together their own way
of thinking unthinkable dreams.
You and you,
and me too,
we are the birds of the future,
we are the birds
of the engaging worlds.

We have lost the other half of a dynamic icon and what wonderful songs and treasured memories they have left behind. I was so privileged to have met both many times for the Homecoming held in Central City, KY. They leave behind music that is timeless. My deepest sympathy to Don´s wife and his children is the loss of a husband and father. The world is less brighter with another cherished performer taken from us. I´m sure Phil is rejoicing with Don .

I was so very saddened and heart broken to learn Don Everly passed away. I wake each morning listening to the music of The Everly Brothers and go to bed listening to their music. I will truly miss Don. I will miss seeing new photos of him when he would shrug his shoulders to a beat during certain songs and when he bends and shakes his knees to the beat and rhythm of his music, especially when he’s singing Cathy’s Clown. Like most girls I too, was in love with these two very handsome and talented boys, Phil and Don Everly. I am so happy to see all the photos that had been taken during The Everly Brothers’ careers and which have been shared with the world. Wonderful memories for all their fans to view. Even at my age, I find myself shaking my good knee when doing dishes as I listen to The Everly Brothers heavenly harmonizing and guitar picking and strumming. Their Daddy taught them well. I am mesmerized watching them play their guitars. I love listening to the songs that their Daddy taught them, especially “Put My Little Shoes Away.” I cry every time I hear it. My favourite songs were “Let It Be Me” and “Cathy’s Clown”, but I loved them all. I could relate to many of their love songs. I cried and sang along with them when no one was around. I loved watching Phil look at Don while performing with such brotherly love in his eyes and respect, and enjoyed too, when Phil would refer to Don as Donald during interviews. So sweet.
While the brothers had issues as all siblings do, I could still see the brotherly love they had for each other when they performed. Reading how long they were in the road every year, they needed the break to experience the joys and love that comes with having a family of their own, being able to spend time with their children and getting the opportunity to be independent musicians, song writers and singers, as well as showcasing their amazing, brilliant and beautiful talent individually.
I chuckle to myself as I remember watching Phil describe during an interview, his and Don’s experience auditioning in Hollywood to possibly take the next step as actors. Phil saw the humour of it all, but Don was upset. I did also understand Don’s frustration with how the audition had been managed. As his family described Don, he lived with his heart.
My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Everly with the loss of her husband Don and to Don’s mother, his children and grandchildren, my sincere condolences for your loss. My heart aches for Phil and Don’s mother. As a parent, no matter our children’s ages, it is heartbreaking to see our children pass before us. I am so glad Don found such happiness and great love with his wife, Adela. May the memories Don made with his family give strength and comfort to all his family, friends and fans during this very difficult time. I know the memories of The Everly Brothers I have, since I was 8, listening and dancing in front of the mirror to The Everly Brothers music on my sister’s 45s and albums. I carry my Everly Brothers 3 disc CD in my purse. Thank goodness for YouTube videos and all the photos online of Don and Phil throughout their careers. I loved them both. They gave so much of themselves to the world. RIP Don. No more travelling to perform with so little personal time. I’m sure Phil has greeted you as you’ve entered the Musical Harmony Hall of Heaven. Your love of music and your heavenly harmonies will live on for us to enjoy, appreciate and cherish. I will shrug my shoulders and shake my one knee as I continue to listen to your tight brotherly harmonies in memory of you. Missing you so much already. My sadness with you gone is overwhelming. Thank you Don and Phil for sharing your beautiful voices and wonderful music you have left for us all.

Loved your music the first song I heard on the radio after giving birth to my daughter was a song you wrote called ‘Louise’ and that’s what I named her. Thank you so much for such beautiful songs. R.I.P Don

Thank you for all you gave us. You and your brother were Simply the Best. I grew up listening to you and your brother. The Everly Brothers were the finest I ever heard. I liked all your songs but Mama Tried had so much meaning and the way you guys sang was outstanding. I use that song and the words to all my teams to listen and to learn. May you and Phil rest in peace and thank you for everything you gave us.......coach
