Aunt Dinah came into my life like she always came into a house or apartment -- with a twinkle in her eye and her arms out for a big hug. I don't remember the first time I met her. I must have been six or seven at the time. We had just moved to Chicago from Florida and we were starting a new life together, my mom, my dad and my brother. Into this new life came a new extended family too--new cousins, new uncles, a new grandmother, and new aunts. It was both unsettling and exciting. But what I remember most was that it was comforting. That's because Aunt Dinah (and Uncle Clarence) smothered us with love and welcomed us like we had been there all along. She was a wonderful aunt, full of joy and warmth, always positive and encouraging. I may always remember her dramatic eyebrows, her diminutive height and distinctive voice. I will always be grateful for her introducing me to mondo bread. But I will never forget her caring, loving heart. God bless, Aunt Dinah. May you bring your smile and laughter to the Heavens.
