Not sure what to say?

Margaret Dospiljulian

Dear Milt(ok, in person I'd probably still call you Mr. Port), Karyn, Ronny, and Laurel:

It seems like just yesterday when I was with all of you whiling away the time by: pitching pennies, doing needlepoint with your wife/mom and Mrs. Kovarsky, playing games, stoking poker (whoops..that was only the dads), babysitting for you "youngins", meeting at your house as you and DeeDee sponsored our Courtland Park pre-teen and teen clubs, watching Karyn and Laurel become great skaters, watching Ronny and little Arthur compete in sports, and watching two wonderful parents beam as their children became more and more accomplished.

Thank you Port family for sharing a lifetime of wonderfully fun memories from my youth that can never be dimmed regardless of the passing of time. For me, DeeDee will always be alive and well; remembered as an amazing woman who I always admired and have tried emulate in many ways as I continue to make my way in the world.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I'm sorry for missing the service, but didn't know until my Dad called us late Monday (we had been out of town for a long weekend).

Wishing you all continued love and happiness,

Margaret

Dear Milt, Karyn, Ronnie & Laurel,

We heard the news this evening of "Auntie" Deedee's passing -- Susan and I are so saddened by your loss. I will always cherish my memories of Deedee, from way back "in the days," as she wrangled an unruly bunch of Gerber and Port children, to the honor of Milt's and her presence at our wedding, to her involvement in the lives of the next generation of Gerber kids. We wish we could be with you during this difficult time; know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and that we will always carry in our hearts the joy that Deedee left us.

I KNOW HOW SAD YOU ALL MUST BE AND WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT I WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND DEEDEE.

SINCERELY,

JOAN O'NEILL (SECRETARY TO AL SCHULTZ)

To All Families an Friends of Deedee.

Our hearts are filled with sorrow and pain with the loss of Deedee.

But remember, we all had the privilidge of experiencing what I call the Deedee effect.

Her heart was filled with unconditional love, joy, friendship and especially kindness to all that crossed her path in life.

I am saddened by our loss, but rejoice in the fact that I knew her and she was a friend. How lucky for all those who knew her, to have been a part of her life and to have had her as part of our lives.

We are all richer for it, and all I can think of to say is Thank You!

Deedee for being you.

Love,

Charnelle

Dear Milt, Karyn, Ronnie and Laurel, I feel so inadequate to find the words to express my deepest sympathy to you and your families. I first met your mother in 1968 or so, and we enjoyed a friendship for many years. But things have a way of splitting people apart and your mom and I went our separate ways. I can tell you, with 100% sincerity, that I always maintained good feelings about her. On that rare occasion when our paths would cross, it was as if time stood still and we were propelled back in time to when our kids were little and B'nai B'rith Women was a major factor in our lives.

I am ever so sorry that Deedee is gone because she was far too good and far too young for this to happen but G-d must have wanted her badly enough to take her now. May you take comfort in knowing that she is in a better place. May your memories be of comfort to you.
