David Coakley Obituary

Coakley, David Michael Age 62, passed away on February 26, 2004, in Hot Springs, AR. Born in Chicago on November 2, 1941, David was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Chicago and later moved to Georgia, where he married Jacqueline Godfrey and fathered two children, Dana Michelle and David Matthew Coakley. He worked for many years for the Bell Concrete Walls Company, retiring early due to a work related back injury. He was known for his loving kindness, helpfulness, easy manner and good sense of humor, even though he suffered with severe back pain for many years. In 1991, David was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was ordained to the Lesser or Aaronic Priesthood. Returning to the Chicago area, David was ordained to the Higher or Melchizedek Priesthood in 1992. In this capacity, he accepted responsibility for missionary work, home teaching, and blessing of the sick. He was later priviledged to be called to serve in The Chicago Illinois Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. David had a strong faith and testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was totally dedicated to the great work to which he had been called. David was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Edith (nee Layman) Coakley; his brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Terrie Coakley and sister, Peggy Coakley. He is survived by his wife, Judith (nee Svoboda) Coakley; children from his first marriage, Dana Michelle McKinzie of Canton, GA and David Matthew Coakley of Aurora, IL; grandsons, Cody and Dylan Morris and James McKinzie of Canton, GA, and newborn, Joseph Michael Coakley of Aurora, IL; brother, Richard and sister-in-law, Renie Coakley of Hoffman Estates, IL; and brother, Don Coakley of Berwyn, IL; sister, Lorraine Geary of Woodstock, IL and sister, Pat and brother-in-law, Bob Nelms of Bloomingdale, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. On Sunday, March 7, 2004, at 7 p.m., a Memorial service will be held at the Adolf Funeral Home, 2921 S. Harlem Ave., Berwyn, IL (just a few miles south of the Eisenhower X-Way). Monetary donations will be given to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be used for Humanitarian Aid.
