David Clark Obituary

West Richland, Wash.

Einan's Funeral Home

Dave passed away on Friday, February 24, 2006, after a hard-fought battle with heart disease.

Dave and his twin sister were born September 11, 1958, in Royal Oak, Michigan. The family soon moved to Coshocton, Ohio. Dave was an honors student and excelled as a member of the Coshocton High School swim team. His swimming records at the school held up for more than 10 years after his graduation in 1976.

Dave received a scholarship from the U.S. Navy to attend Tulane University in New Orleans. He graduated with a B.S. in physical chemistry with honors in 1980. He received his commission into the U.S. Navy where he was selected for the nuclear program. He was a dedicated Naval officer serving on destroyers, cruisers and the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.

In 1986, the Navy sent Dave to the University of Texas at Austin where he received his M.A. in physical chemistry (1988) and met his future wife, Gail Brusen. They were married in October 1989. Soon after, they moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where Dave was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base.

Dave was medically retired from the Navy in 1992. Dave and Gail moved to West Richland in 1993 where Dave continued his career as a scientist for several Hanford contractors. He became the building manager at the Radiochemical Processing Lab at Battelle in 2004.

Dave was a quiet man, finding joy in being home with Gail and their cats. He was a willing helper (or indentured volunteer, he sometimes said), assisting Gail at West Richland's many events. He was named 2005 Volunteer of the Year by the Washington Festival and Events Association.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Douglas, and his brother Donald.

He is survived by his wife Gail; their beloved cats White Sox and Pumpkin; his twin sister Deidre Casey (Bill); and nieces Elizabeth and Shannon of Centreville, Virginia; and his brother Douglas of Detroit, Michigan; and nieces Jaclyn (Jason) and Deanna (Norm) of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dave's Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 5, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Einan's Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society, American Heart Association, or Surgical Implant Generation Network (SIGN).

Not sure what made me punch in your name this evening David. Guess I was missing Coshocton. I remember the summer time before David went to Tulane as I would vacation at my aunts house in the summer and hang out with David and Deidre from up the hill. I remember going for the runs in the morning with him. And the rides down town at night with Chris and Deidre. Good soft memories are the best, hope to see you on the other side old friend. - Kevin Jensen.
