Daniel Newman Obituary

To Danny Newman's family, friends and colleagues, I express my deepest sympathy.

Danny taught me about opera, Lyric Opera in particular, when I was a rookie society reporter at the Chicago's American newspaper in the 1960s. Over the years, he generously shared his knowledge--in his melodious voice and always with a dash of humor. I know Danny's irrepressible spirit will remain with all who knew him.

I met Danny a number of times when his friend Seymour Persky would bring him to the members table at the Cliff Dwellers. He was a very interesting and likable person. May he rest in peace.

Dear Mrs. Newman and family,
Please accept my condolences on Mr. Newman's passing. I had the honor of meeting Mr. Newman when he presented to the young professionals auxilliary group at Lyric several years ago - and was thinking of him in the last weeks when I was trying to reschedule one of my operas. I remember him saying one had to see them all, not just one's favorite - and I will remember that always. I shall remember him fondly because he was one of my favorites.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Dear Alyce & Family... Although I am profoundly deaf, I never had a problem communicating with Danny. Many were the stories we shared. My only regrets were that I did not know him sooner. Danny took the time to explain the beauties of music as an art form.. The Good Lord blessed us all with DANNY NEWMAN

God bless Danny! He was a wonderful, funny, wise, resourceful, witty, entertaining, talented man. And a snappy dresser. We'll all miss him.

Dear Alyce, Andre & Lenny,

Until today, when I read about all of Danny’s outstanding accomplishments achieved during his lifetime, and throughout his tenure with the Lyric Opera, I never really fully comprehended what a truly remarkable, creative, loving and philanthropic individual he was. We all share in your loss, but rejoice in having been touched by this extraordinary man.

I hope Danny and one of his dearest friends, Irving Brown, are together once again.

will be missed, his charming manner, his pleasant words as he passed my
seat every Shabbat. His kindness when my dear husband,Dudley, passed
away. May his memory be for a blessing.
