Daniel J. Rivera Obituary

Daniel J. Rivera had a large extended family and wanted to be a role model for his younger niece and cousins. That''s one reason he decided to enter the military as several of his older relatives had. Family members say the 22-year-old from Rochester, N.Y., also was not afraid of anything _ even death. Rivera died Oct. 18 in a vehicle accident in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to Fort Hood. "He wanted to serve his county, and he was really proud of what he was doing. ... He just wanted to make the most of his life," said his mother, Myrian Rivera. "He was the bravest of us all," his younger brother, David Walker, told the Democrat and Chronicle. He said he plans to join the Army next year in honor of his brother. Rivera, a 2005 graduate of Victor High School, enjoyed playing soccer and baseball. He was planning a visit home around Thanksgiving. Rivera also leaves behind a sister, Shadel Martinez.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rivera Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Well brother it's been almost three years since THE MOST HIGH called you home. I could only hope that you found a sense of tranquility that can not be found here, and that you deserve. Some people are born special. You were one of thoes people. Your essence was pure and your morals were right. And that's why you were chosen to go home. Though I'm happy your in glory I hurt everyday knowing that us NCO's didn't bring you home to your family and loved ones. Im sorry for that.I don't even listen to JayZ anymore because that was the last thing we spoke on before you went on that last patrol home.You would of been a fine Sergeant one day. You will forever be in my heart brotha see you on the other side..

Daniel,
G-d chose to live in your heart. He was always crazy about your every second while you were here with us. He loved you so much that He sent for you sunrise every morning for 8,149 days of your life. Every spring He sent flowers and in autumn He showed-off the splendor of colors on trees. He gave you rest on days you did not ask.

One thing I, your uncle, forgot to share is that G-d didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and Jesus, the only light, for the way.

Whenever you wanted to talk, He listened. When you cried, He hugged you. When you thought no one care, He was there. Every good dream you had, He will fulfill according to His perfect will. Daniel, He could have lived anywhere else but He chose your heart.

You'll be miss greatly and I hope, since you are with Him now, that G-d will chose to live in the hearts of all your family.

Your Uncle, a.k.a. Ritch Gordon

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Daniel will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Pfc. Rivera, and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of freedom and liberty. Sadly, America has lost one of its finest heroes, the U.S. has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage, which they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Pfc. Rivera has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends, of Pfc. Rivera, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to carry on. Just as you were always with him when he was deployed overseas, know that he will always be with you wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Pfc. Rivera was a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Pfc. Rivera the flag of the United States of America has your blood sewn into the fabric; it shall wave forever in your honor.

Freedom requires sacrifice the protected will never know.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms PFC. Daniel J. Rivera. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dan. And to Dan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while deployed with the U.S. Army in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Dan, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dan’s family and loved ones.
