Daniel Flynn Obituary

I'm really sorry to hear of Mr. Flynn's passing. He was my favorite teacher at Thornton and always made me laugh...sometimes to near tears in his typing class. I wish I would have done a better job of trying to keep in touch over the years. The last time I saw him, he was walking at Chicago Ridge Mall, but didn't get a chance to say hello. He was a wonderful guy and will be greatly missed.

I remember Mr Flynn from St Willibrord HS He taught Religion & was homeroom teacher in my Freshman class. He cared about his students. May God bless & reward him James V (Chicago IL)

Dan Flynn's Business Law class in 1960-61 at St. Willy's was a refuge for me because of him. He was interesting, engaged and interested in his students. I have remembered his wisdom and his joy of life many times since those days. My condolences to his family and friends. May your memories of Dan bring you peace.

Class of 1963

Dan was a grade school student of St. Benedict's grade school in Blue Island, IL as was my sister Elaine (Cizmar) Haskell and myself Helen (Cizmar) Gioiosa were classmates and neighbors. In fact we were at our grade school reunion about two years ago. We always admired Dan's talent specially listening to him sing on the "Morris B. Sacks Talent
Show" on the radio way back when. He always was very personable and friendly.

I remember fondly Mr. Flynn as an excellent teacher at St.Willy's,(class of 1968) and a talented director at Founders footlights. My prayers are with his family.

Dan was a considerate, helpful colleague at Thornton, always willing to lend a hand. His cheerfulness and sense of humor will always be remembered.

Mr Flynn was a important part of my high school days at St. Willys. He managed to motivate me into participating more at school. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Late, late did I realize I could live by the same wisdom as Mr. Dan Flynn. What a gifted and generous teacher in all regards. I never thanked him while he was here though I am confident he knows now that he actually did impress me. Besides that my bookkeeping/accounting classes from him gave me a solid skill for my early working years and personal finances. Thank you, Mr. Flynn!

Mr. Flynn was a excellent teacher. Fond memories of him. It was always great that he went to St. Willy's and then came back to teach. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

I will remember Dan and his family in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Dan Flynn inspired me as his student at St. Willibrord. (Class of 1968) His positive attitude helped me through some hard times and knowing him made me a better person.

Dan was a true gentleman and model for all his students as well as a marvelous mentor for all teachers. Thanks Dan

I had the pleasure of teaching down the hallway from Dan at Thornton. What a blessing it was to witness his unfailing good humor, his kind and generous spirit, his boundless pride in his job and his kids, and, most especially, his unconditional love and unwavering faith in God. Dan's devotion and dedication to those he served will remain his legacy. More than a great teacher, he was a beacon of faith and love to all who knew him.

My "uncle", my cousin and my sponsor. My cousin Dan was always a source of laughter, guidance and love.

I have many fond memories of Dan while working with him at Thornton. Our friendship has endured to this day. We had many good times together.

Mr. Flynn was THE teacher at St. Willys '65. He stood out for all the right reasons and will always be outstanding in my memory.

R.I.P. Mr. Flynn. Ever so often do you meet someone that makes an impact that lasts a lifetime. Mr. Flynn used to always have criticism for me, whether good or bad. You always need people like that in your life that could tell you the REALLY REAL. I had the pleasure of having him as a teacher a few times in high school as well as staying in touch afterwards. He was the first person to tell me PAY YOURSELF FIRST. I still keep that saying on a notecard in my appointment book to keep me grounded and think long term every time I get a paycheck and get that urge to splurge. Last time I seen him was at a wine tasting event a couple of years ago enjoying retirement, and he was still dropping life lessons on me over a glass of chardonnay. High school teacher is an understatement. This guy was and still is in my top 10 life coaches of all time. He will be truly missed.

Dan Flynn was one of the greatest teachers and mentors I've ever had. He taught his students how to think for themselves. I sang in the chorus for several of his productions. He let us ordinary people share the joy of singing. He had a fabulous sense of humor. I am sure he already has a heavenly production in the works. He will be missed.

Dan Flynn was an extraordianry man and teacher. His students loved him and everything he did above and beyond just teaching business. He found them jobs, taught them proper etiquette, including professional and personal wtiquette. Dan Flynn was a true teacher and loved teaching. He was fun and had a passion for all his endeavors. I remember going to Showcase Theater. Always loved the plays. Mary, so sorry to hear about Dan.

I had Mr. Flynn for two or more accounting and business classes at Saint Willibrord High School back in the 1960's.
When I took up teaching, albeit a short career, he and Mr.Pavlon(also a teacher at St. Willy's and a good friend of Dan's)gave me great encouragement.
Dan Flynn was a patient, charming, friendly, good, and Godly man.

I was very sad to hear about Dan's passing. I knew him at Thornton then ended up working very closely with him on many plays at Showcase. He was always a joy to work with and incredibly kind. Thank you, Dan, for the leadership, generosity, and friendship. You will be missed.

The good Lord broke the mold after Dan Flynn.

He was the corner stone of my childhood home away from home, Showcase Community Theater.

No doubt John McNally is running the lights, Jan Tews is in the box office and Sherry Vath & Dan are whipping up some intermission lemonade for a great show upstairs. He will be deeply missed down here &

I will always remember the FlynnGram motto, "Eat desert first!"

Mr.Flynn was a great teacher. I'm one of his St.Willy's kids and will always remember his work with the talent shows. I have had the opportunity to see him many times over the years and it was always my pleasure.

Mr. Flynn was a great teacher and taught me to really use my talents. While in his OE class at Thornton, he convinced to leave my comfort zone of working in fast food while in high school to working a bank. Great Guy! He will be missed. My prayers are with his family.

While I never had "Danny the Flynn" as a teacher, I knew him before, during and after my two years at St. Willy's. I had a great respect for Mr. Flynn. I am saddened by news of his death, not for him, but for those who will miss him here on Earth. Recquieset in pace, Mr. Flynn.

I am saddened by the loss of such a nice man. My parents were so found of him and they all had such great time together. I know that Dan and my Mom are already planning there next production and I am sure it will be a great one. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dan was a great guy. He was always happy at school, He will be greatly missed.

I'm saddened to hear of Mr. Flynn's passing. He taught me at St. Willy's and I always remember him as a great motivator. I'm glad we were able to reconnect a few years past to share old stories and catch up. We have lost one of a kind.

Dan brought many, many hours of entertainment to the south suburban area at a reasonable price through his plays. He always said that his 10¢ dance lessons took him really far in his life. He'll be remembered for many years to come for his ability to bring enjoyment to others. Mary was such a wonderful loving sister to him and a grand friend for him.

You were an inspiration to your students and anyone who knew you in the community theatre world - and beyond. Thank you for all of us; may you rest in peace, Dan. Always know that you were loved, appreciated and will be missed!

Dan Flynn was a great teacher. I enjoyed his classes and he made school fun. He taught students to be good thinkers and see the many shades of gray. I sang in the chorus for many of his shows and shared his love of music. He had a fantastic sense of humor. I am one of his St. Willy's "kids". I know you wil miss him Mary but I am sure he is already working on a show in heaven.
