Collins, Reverend Daniel J.
Reverend Daniel J. Collins, 93, of Chicago, IL, entered eternal rest on November 16, 2024, surrounded by love and prayers. Father Dan was born on December 31, 1930, in Chicago, to Frank Collins and Marie Collins [nee Copeland]. Father Dan devoted his life to faith and service, touching countless lives as a Priest within the Archdiocese of Chicago. Father Dan was ordained on April 12, 1958, serving in many parishes including most recently St. Mary of the Lake, where he was known for his great laugh and his joy to share time with others. He loved to travel to different places, and especially loved to go to Ireland to research the family genealogy tree. In addition to his many friends in all his parishes, Father Dan cherished time spent with family and found great joy in staying connected with loved ones. He was a beloved son, brother, cousin and Uncle, survived by his cousin Brother Tom Collins, his nieces and nephews: Patti (Stan) Gilliam, Pam Collins, Theresa (Bob) Howard, Paul (Debbie) Collins, Kathleen Magno, Stephen (Sasha) Collins, Eileen (Mike) Rosenstiehl, and Elizabeth (Matt) Prost. He is also lovingly remembered by great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, as well as fond relatives in USA and Ireland. Father Dan's memory will forever remain a blessing to those who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie, and his brothers Robert (Joyce) and Francis (Peg). A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Benedict's Citadel for their kindness and care shown to Father Dan. A special thank you to Karolina and Mira for all the care and support that she gave to Father Dan.
A visitation will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, on November 23, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Chicago Ridge, IL. Eternal rest grant unto Daniel O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Priests' Health and Retirement Fund in honor of Father Daniel Collins.
