Clarence Wessely Obituary

Wessely Clarence (Wimpy)

Clarence (Wimpy) Wessely, age 94, of Kewaunee died Thursday June 7, 2012 at the Kewaunee Care Center. He was born on November 14, 1917 in Kewaunee to the late John Wessely Jr. and Anna Janda Wessely.

Wimpy attended Kewaunee Schools, graduating with the Kewaunee High School Class of 1935.

On September 11, 1946, he married Armella Bredael, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Luxemburg. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1975. On July 7, 1979, he married Eleanor (Gauthier) Plansky, at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2000.

He truly was a "Jack of all Trades", with a brief stint in the Army, and holding jobs as a bartender, gravel truck driver for Kewaunee County for 10 years, fuel truck driver, running his own businesses whitewashing barns and selling seed to farmers, school bus driver, night watchman at Kewaunee Shipbuilding, and factory worker at Hamachek Machine and Leyse's. In addition, he also began a career with the U. S. Postal Service in December, 1956, and was a substitute mail carrier for Route 2 in Kewaunee for almost 19 years, while holding the other jobs. He was appointed the regular carrier in October of 1975, and held that job until his retirement. In his early retirement years, he was also known as the "bike man", always ready to fix a broken one. He loved playing sheephead, polka dancing, and gardening, with his garden always being bigger than what he needed. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Donald and Janice Wessely, Mishicot; one daughter and partner: Carol Jensen and Roland Pena, Menomonee Falls; a stepson: Robert (Joyce) Plansky, Ephraim; three grandchildren: Michael (Shauna) Wessely, Fort Atkinson; Steven (Kenzie) Wessely, Denmark; Daniel Wessely and fiancé, Tristin Audiffred, Watertown; step-grandchild: Chris Plansky and his wife, Amy Syverson, Ashland; great grandchild: Alexander Wessely, Denmark; step-great grandchildren: Ella and Cecil Plansky, Ashland; a sister: Evelyn Pribyl, Kewaunee; sister-in-law: Evelyn Gauthier, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers: Alvin (Phyllis), Leo (Esther) and Willard Wessely; a sister: Mildred (Wencil) Pribyl; brothers-in-law: Milton (Florence) Bredael, Norman (Celia) Bredael; Gordon (Cecelia) Bredael; Edward Pribyl and Norman Gauthier.

Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues at Holy Rosary Church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Fr. William Swichtenberg. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
