Clare Greenberg Obituary
Clare "Chaikey" Greenberg, nee Pomerantz, 93. Beloved wife of the late Daniel; devoted mother of Ruth (Dan) Bernkopf, Aaron (Jinny Colin) Greenberg, and Joseph (Mary Bowler) Greenberg; cherished grandmother of Rachel Bernkopf, Adam (Madi) Bernkopf, Lisa (fiance Pat Kelly) Bernkopf, Katie and Hannah Greenberg; proud great-grandmother of Owen; dear sister of the late Fradle Pomerantz (Barry) Freidenreich and sister-in-law of the late Ezra (late Jennie) Gordon; loving aunt and great-aunt of many; will be missed by many treasured friends and family members. Chaikey was born in Chicago in 1928 to Chaim and Bessie Pomerantz. She was the head reference librarian at the City of Chicago Municipal Reference Library for many years. She was a passionate Labor Zionist and ardent supporter of the preservation of the Yiddish language. Chaikey was a past board member of Chicago Yivo Society and the Chicago Jewish Historical Society and was active in various Labor Zionist organizations and other cultural and charitable organizations. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 13, 12 PM at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chicago Jewish Historical Society, www.chicagojewishhistory.org. For funeral info: www.weinsteinandpiserfuneralhome.com

To my friend Ruth and her family, Our condolences on the passing of your mom. I remember meeting her along time ago but I´ve heard that she was just a lovely woman, Very authoritative and very intelligent. I know she will be missed by many.

Dear Greenberg family,
I just wanted to express my condolences. Clare was a lovely, lovely woman. I had the pleasure of working with her at the Municipal Reference Library. In fact, I was a member of the clippings department, a job I loved, in large part because I got to work alongside Clare, who was equal parts spirited and easygoing.
I have very fond memories of her and will continue to think of her often,

My deepest sympathies to the family of Claire Greenberg. She was my friend Ruth´s mom and Ruth were talk about her through the years in wonderful ways. Wonderfully that she was involved in so many things in life. Very authoritative person.
