I remember Mrs. Compernolle as the delightful mother of my best friend Mary Claire. We lived at 6545 N. Ashland Avenue in Chicago and they lived a few houses down on the corner, which we little kids accessed via the alley between our backyards. My family was the Clausens, my name was different at the time, but I remember Mary Claire and her big fun family and her Mom very clearly and warmly.
I'm sorry to hear of Claire's passing even though I'm just reading of it now online. I send my condolences to the family and especially to Mary Claire.

My condolences to all the Compernolles. Your mom ( and your whole family, for that matter) is permanently embedded in the memories of my youth. Our little corner of the universe was idyllic, and that was mostly due to our parents imparting lots and lots of love in our lives. I never heard a harsh word from your mom, and I'm pretty sure I deserved plenty. Bless her heart, and all of the Compernolles.
Sincerely, Ann Fernholz Lavin
