Christian Rivera Obituary

My deepest condolences to Elana, the girls, and the entire Rivera family. Chris was far and away my best friend during our time at Northwestern--we lived next door to or across from each other for three years--so I rarely go a day without seeing or hearing something that reminds me of him.

If there's any way someone (Paul?) could contact me, I'd be eternally grateful. I only learned of Chris's passing a few weeks ago, so I'm still trying to process the news.

All my love, all my wishes, all my prayers to you, Christian. I'll miss you forever.

Christian was a great guy, who loved his family more than anything, and he was a pleasure to work with the past 8 years. We will miss you, and we wish Elana and the kids only the best in the future; our thoughts are with you.

It was a honor and privilege to know Chris; we met during law school and his demeanor and attitude always brightened even the toughest of days. Chris, we remember and miss you dearly.

I knew Chris during the law school years. I've always remembered that even during those stressful and uncertain times, Chris was always ready with a smile and a laugh anytime I ran across him. Even during finals! He was the guy that everyone knew and loved. He was a truly good person that added to the life of everyone who met him. I'm happy to be one of the lucky ones that knew him and enjoyed his company.

I can recall so many late night conversations with Chris and times of shared commiseration during tough times in law school. Chris was one of the bright spots in law school, offering his wit, his humor, his support, and most of all his friendship. Chris, you will be missed. Rest in peace.

My wife Rori and I were friends with Chris during law school. Shortly after graduation, Chris attended our wedding in NY. For years our families have been exchanging holiday cards. With FaceBook, Chris and I renewed our friendship and kept in close contact. We are so sad to hear the tragic news about Chris. He will be missed. He was a truly great person. Law school would not have been as rewarding or fun without Chris as a friend.

He never missed an opportunity to tell me what was going on and about his growing and loving family. He also never forgot to ask how Peggy and I were doing. He was such a happy guy and always made me smile.

The funeral service was a beautiful one and, as one of his friends said, Christian may be gone but he hasn't gone far. He will live forever in your hearts. As a member of the fantasy football community that Christian was such a vibrant part of and so enriched with his knowledge, judgement, and heart, I feel sick and disheartened at his sudden passing. Though I live in Japan, Christian always made me feel like I was a valued and trusted part of his life, and I miss him as a brother and a fellow traveller. My sincere condolences to his wife and children, who have lost a great husband and father.

While I never physically met Christian (despite our close proximity), I considered him more than just a good friend. I have yet to find a more genuine person and a more devoted father and husband. Though most of our conversations were based on our shared part-time occupation, hobby and obsession with football, I feel as though I lost a brother of sorts. My deepest condolences to his family for such a painful loss.

Christian, our little community has been deeply affected by your passing. You are missed brother! To Elana and the kids, please know how many people felt strongly about your father/husband,...that was the kind of impact he had on people he hadn't even met in person.

My condolences for your loss. Christian was such an exemplary person and I feel privileged to have known and interacted with him. He had the unique ability to touch your heart with his compassion, support, and stories from miles and miles away. My prayers are with his family and other friends in this time of immense loss.
