Chester Turner Obituary

Turner, Chester L. Businessman and entrepreneur, of Turner of Turner's Bar B Que, passed away on Thursday, December 5th, 2013 due to heart failure. Chester migrated to the Midwest from Mississippi in 1955 originally as a Mortician in a family business. He chooses Chicago as his final stop in 1957. He met and married Anna E. Collins by 1961. The Collins family already had an established name in the business of Bar B Que for many years on the south side of Chicago. With her dad, Earl and his brothers at helm (Harvey, Terry, Caesar and Argla B. who created Mumbo Sauce, Ernest being the only one with a different path to success with Seaway Bank & The Food Baskets). This affiliation helped him to segue easily into business. Turner's Bar B Que & Seafood was opened in 1963 on West 63rd Street. It became a neighborhood staple for 37 years on the southwest side of Chicago, relocated on 76th and Halsted until the year 2000. He was known for having the best hotlinks, rib tips, bar b que'd and friend chicken with his secret sauce. His good food, kind heart, warm smile and robust laugh are truly missed. He leaves to cherish a devoted wife of 52 years, three children, two grandchildren, one sister, one sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be held at: Cage Memorial, 7651 S. Jeffery Blvd., Chicago, IL 60649.
