Dear Max,

I'm so sorry about your dad's passing--I have many fond memories of your parents; growing up across the "backyard fence" from them as I did, they were always kind and supportive to me. I especially appreciate and value the friendship that they shared with my parents. Both my mother and my father admired and loved your father (along with your mother) for his intelligence, his loyalty, and his ready humor. I know my dad will feel this loss greatly. Please accept for yourself, and extend to your mother, my deepest sympathy. As parents, we often wonder how we might endure if we were to lose a child; we seldom reflect on the desolation we might feel if we were to lose a parent. It was only when my mother passed away that I experienced that intense sorrow. Shakespeare writes, that "Courage mounteth with occasion," and I know you will endure through your grief.

Sincerely,

Rick
