Charles Stockwell Obituary

Stockwell, Charles W. 90, Veteran WWII Captain USAAF, of River Grove passed away at his home August 15, 2008, beloved husband of Anna for 67 years, loving father of Terry, the late Chuck (Toni), George (Ann) and Jim (Deb). Cherished grandfather of Mike (Jean) and Pat (Nicole), great grandfather of Charlie, Allie and Brenna, fond uncle of Karen (Bob) Penzenstadler, Susan (Jerry) Wojtaszek, Randy (Sandra) Stockwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Julia and brothers George and Jim. Charlie worked for International Harvester Company from 1940-1978 in Engineering Research serving IH for many of those years as Chief Engineer, Policies & Procedures. The Boy Scouts of America were a big part of his life for over 25 years, joining Troop 142 back in 1957 and serving the Thatcher Woods Area Council as its director at Camp Shin-Go-Beek for many years, as part of the national staff for the 1964 World Jamboree and as District Chairman for the Council from 1970-1974. A memorial gathering for family and friends of Charlie is being planned for early fall. For information on time and location please email a request to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your favorite charity appreciated. It is very hard losing the old guard. They made us who we are today through their generosity, love and support. Interred with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.

My sincere sympathy at the loss of your husband, father. grandfather, and greatgrandfather.

Although I never met Charles I enjoyed greatly talking to him on the phone in 2004 when I was on my search for family history. I was trying to pick his brain as to what he remembered about his grandmother and great aunts & uncles & cousins. Charles & I share the same greatgrandparents.

Although Charles' earthly life has ended I am delighted to now have contact with his son Jim.

Jim,
I'm sorry to read about the passing of your father last month. I know we tee-peed his (your) house at least once way back when. My prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Nolan-Rennie

Please accept our sincere wishes of sympathy to each of you. My memories go back to a very young Chuck and Bitsie who lived next door as I was growing up. The memories of sitting in the kitchen with your mom, talking about so many things that little girls talk about. Your dad was always a friendly figure to me and I remember the years of scouting, which took him away many weekends in the summer. I'm sure your family will miss their father and grandfather. Please know that you will forever have a place in our hearts and prayers.
