I am deeply saddened to find out that Fr. Ronan has left us. I was a freshman at Campion Hall in 1983-84 and I was fortunate to know him as our Chaplin. His gentle manner; profound intelligence, golden patience, subtile sence of humor, willingness to listen with his heart, and compassion for young poeple were so critical at that point in my life. How I wish I had connected with him after all these years. He will never be forgotten in my mind because he was a remarkable human being.

I was a student of Spanish at Xavier University in 1962 when Fr. Ronan was teaching there. He was the priest I used as a counselor. We shared our interest in Latin America. But mostly he was a kind person who was a good listener. I became a professor of Latin American history, and I am now a retired Episcopal priest. I followed in his footsteps: historian and priest.

I still have and use my history of Mexico notes that I took from Charles Ronan's course at Xavier University in the spring of 1962.

Father Ronan was one of my very best teachers at Loyola. He taught me History in 1965. Through all the years since then he always had time for me on the phone, and returned every call. An outstanding, teacher, Jesuit, and gentleman. Hope to join you in heaven father. Please pray for us all. Denny Curran

Father Ronan was a long time family friend going back to the days of his family's residence in St. Charles, IL. He was a welcomed and honored guest at many family reunions, weddings and funerals over the years involving the family of Frank and Mary Kaman, Bob & Gerri Smith, Marty and Helen Hoelscher. Their Children, grandchildren and great children sorrow in the loss of Fr. Ronan and offer our deepest condolences to the Ronan family and the Jesuit community. Our family takes great comfort in the hope given us by our faith, a faith so admirably represented by Fr. Ronan, that he has been reunited with the deceased members of his family and friends and that they all now live in eternal happiness in the presence of the Lord.

"Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there;
I did not die"
Father, you were my dissertation advisor, my mentor and my friend. I was the last Ph.d student you directed and guided - I will always try to make you proud of me - until we meet again,

My husband & I met each other at Fr. Ronan's morning Mass in the basement of Loyola Hall. Our friendship with Fr. Ronan grew while we were at the Rome Center with him in 67. We have great memories of our travels with him & especially remember the day we took his picture on the Papal throne. He baptized some of our children & officiated at our daughter's wedding. We shall miss him & his wonderful sense of humor.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to Fr. Ronan's family. Fr. Ronan was our Chaplin for two years in my dormitory at Loyola. We kept in touch and he later married me and my wife several years after college. He was a great man and wonderful mentor.
Sincerely,
