Charles J. Land, 85, of Vineland, passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles and Bernadine Land. Prior to moving to Vineland in 2008, he was a resident of New Port Richey, Fla., for 28 years. Before he retired, he was employed at the Philadelphia Shipyard. Charles was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War. Charles was a member of the Fleet Reserve while residing in Florida. He enjoyed attending yearly reunions for the US Hutchins, the ship he served on during World War II. Charles was a longtime Phillies fan and enjoyed talking baseball with his grandson.
He is survived by his grandson and wife, Joseph and Lynn Hoban of Vineland; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Boyle of Southampton; sister, Bernadette Glennon of Florida; granddaughter, Lisa Nagle; four great-grandchildren, Michael Hoban, Sean Nage, Leigha Nagle and Ryan Nagle; one great great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Louise Land; and brothers, Frank and Edward Land.
A church visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. followed by a memorial Mass at 1 p.m. from Christ the Good Shepherd Parish-Church of St. Isidore the Farmer, 1655 Magnolia Road, Vineland. Final disposition will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland.
