Charles Harrison "Sarge" Edmondson

Charles Edmondson Obituary

Charles "Sarge" Harrison Edmondson, age 75, passed from this life on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at his home in Baxter Springs, Kan. Charles was born March 5, 1934, to the union of Clifton and Bessie (Snyder) Edmondson. He was united in marriage Feb. 15, 1965, in Baxter Springs, to Elizabeth (Hunt) Edmondson. He served his in the United States Army for 20 years. While in the Army, he was a part of the signal core communications, he served two tours of the Vietnam War. He was a part of the First Calvary Division and also Big Red One First Infantry Battalion. During his services he was awarded three Army Accommodation Medals and two Bronze Stars. He served as a E-6 staff sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 206, Baxter Springs, and VFW post 534, Joplin, Mo. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 277, of Miami, Okla. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs. Charles is preceded in death by one sister, June Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, of the home; three sons, David Edmondson and wife, Tammy, of Baxter Springs, Clifton "Bob" Edmondson and wife, Janet, of Grove, Okla., and Rod Edmondson and wife, Gail, of Baxter Springs; along with nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 16, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Clifton "Bob" Edmondson and Pastor Jeff Street will officiate the services. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Elizabeth. Serving as pallbearers will be the United States Army. In lieu of flowers family request memorial contributions be sent to Community Hospice of America. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.
