Charles Beattie Obituary

CORINTH * Charles A. "Poppa" Beattie, 71, of Wall Street, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Nov. 16, 1935, in Corinth, he was the son of the late Carson and Edna (Smith) Beattie.

Mr. Beattie attended Corinth High School.

He joined the United States Air Force, serving for two years during the Korean War.

Mr. Beattie married Ada Dorsett on Nov. 16, 1991, in Corinth.

The couple resided in Corinth for many years.

He was first employed at the Albany Medical Center as a respiratory therapist for 25 years, worked at Hallmark Nursing Centre in Glens Falls for a few years and then worked at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs as a certified nursing assistant for 18 years until his retirement.

Mr. Beattie enjoyed working in his workshop, working outside and watching the New York Yankees.

He also enjoyed cutting down trees, and always tried to help someone in need.

He also enjoyed spending time daily with Tyler, Brooke, Grace, Jay and Dawson.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one daughter, Marion Wood; one son, Charles E. Beattie; one brother, James Beattie; and one sister, Sandra Millis.

Survivors besides his wife of 16 years include four daughters: Hope Hemcher of Corinth, Angel Emery and her husband, Joe, of Corinth, Bonnie Daniels of Corinth, and Nancy Lynn LaPell of Glens Falls; four stepchildren: Sue Mosher and her husband, Joe of Corinth, Fred Shippee and his wife, Donna, of Hadley, William Shippee of Florida, and David Shippie and his wife, Lynn, of Waterford; three sisters, Margaret Millis and her husband, Bob, of Corinth, Lucille Been of Greenfield, and Nancy Greenwood and her husband, James, of Lake Luzerne; one brother, Roland Beattie and his wife, Sandra, of Queensbury; one favorite grandson, Chauncey "Burt" Wood and his wife, Tonya, of Corinth; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth.

Friends may call form 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Wendy and all of the staff at Hospice of Saratoga, Dr. William Borgos of Queensbury Family Health and to Renee Stimpson and Lisa Jenkins for their ongoing support.
