My cousin, Adrienne Harris, told me about Carol's sad death. We offer our condolences. I want to share some memories of Carol from our Jamieson Elementary School and Mather High School days.

I recall a 6th grade teacher praising Carol to the class for the way she folded her cardigan sweater. The teacher had a dialogue with Carol about the ice skating and other lessons she had on different days. I remember Carol's birthday party at the indoor ice rink. I recall club meetings in her basement, with Cathie running in, proudly wearing her first grown up, straight skirt.

I recall how Carol took us up to her bedroom and told us she had to be careful to avoid crushing her mother's mink stole, which occupied part of the closet.

Carol always thought of others.

She was never clumsy like the rest of us. We could walk outside in muddy weather and she could avoid getting splattered like the rest of us. When it came time for our 30th elementary school reunion, I think she was the one who ordered the large, buttery cookies we had eaten in school. Last year, she sent me a note, but never mentioned she was suffering.

Remember all the good times you shared and her wonderful legacy.

Dear Bob, Brett, Adam & Family:

As one of Carol's first students at Niles West H.S., please allow me to extend my condolences and pay tribute to her. You know her as a special and loving wife and mother. I knew her as an incredible teacher, motivator and person. She had the rare ability to always have a smile for you, even when you were struggling with a math problem or personal problem. She showed a passion for her profession and she wouldn't let you quit on yourself. As I told you after the funeral, I wasn't one of Carol's better students; but she encouraged me to hang in there and it's because of her, I developed a motivation and a "stick-to-itiveness" in life and profession. If it wasn't for Carol's belief in me, I wouldn't have won a scholarship award at college. Nor would I have received 5 top publication honors (including 2 Best in the Nation's). Nor would I have some of my work on permanent display in the archives of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. And I certainly wouldn't have become the first individual or company to defeat Frito-Lay in the 40-year history of a marketing competition. I really regret I didn't get a chance over those many years to let her know just what an influence and impact she had on my life. Those of us who even briefly knew her were indeed the fortunate ones. I've had the privilege thru my work and friendships to have met and known many famous people. Whether they have been professional athletes or entertainers, believe me when I say this, none of them held a candle to Carol. You should all be proud to have had her in your lives. I know I will always be grateful for the role she played in mine. She has passed the torch to all of us.

Sincerely,

Dave Mann

Dear Bob,Brett, and Adam,

Adrienne and I are at a loss of words over your great loss.

We have so many cherished memories of Carol and all of you. The painted doors after each of our children's Bar/Bat Mitzvah's, our Adam's daily telephone calls as a three year old to Carol, my Mother, and Adrienne's Mother. Carol's Bow-tie cookies, Camp Ojibwa, your friendship.

Carol will never be forgotten by any of us. She was a very special friend, neighbor, Mother, daughter, and wife.

All our love is with each of you and your families.
