Carmelo, old friend, it has been too many years since we held court on public opinion at Loyola University, with Carlos and the rest of our rat pack. I had not seen you in over 25 years, but always had fond memories of those years. I was talking about you with Carlos two days ago and just heard about you today from another old dear friend, one day before this guest book was about to expire. I am very sorry that we lost contact, but you are in a better place now. May you rest in peace, amico mio.

Dear Julie,
We were so sadden to learn of Carmelo's death. Somehow we believed that he would win. Perhaps he has, he was given two extra years with you, and the few times we spoke on Maui, that was the most important thing for him. You are stong and brave and he loved you so...We pray that you will continue that stength and draw on the many happy moments that you have shared. We hope that you will find peace and comfort in knowing that no person could have given more than you and that he so appreciated your love. If there is anyway that Sandy and I can be of help to you, please do call on us.
With much love and continued prayers,
Sandy & Beth

I looked forward to my trips to Chicago because they always included a visit with Carmelo. I met him before he got sick and had the pleasure of meeting his lovely wife as well. I tried to remember the way he was then and act as I did then each time we met after he became ill. I like to think he enjoyed that. RIP

Julie,

My condolences. I'd only met you and Carmelo a hand full of times throughout the years through SEFA, but his wonderful, gentle spirit was always in evidence no matter what the subject of conversation. Carmelo had a true passion for life (and great Italian food!). He will be so greatly missed.

Dearest Julie,

Carmelo will always be with us in spirit. I can feel his strong spirit right now as I am typing this. He was spunky and full of life and I grew to love him and you very much.

This is a very hard day for me. I came into work and broke down. This is where I feel him the most even on the West Coast.

I am fortunate to have spent time with both of you during the SEFA conference. Your relationship was special and your kindness and warmth were deeply felt. You will both always have a special place in my heart.

Ciao Bello!

Love, Debbie Cote
