Dear Mrs. Joseph:
My sympathy to you and your family. I used to work for the I. S. Joseph Company years ago, and it was very much like a family to me. I still keep in touch with many of those people. Mr. Joseph was a good man and he lived a good life! Please give my best to Scott.

On behalf of my beloved parents, Howard and Joyce Kahn, who are no longer with us, my greatest respect, admiration, and affection for Burton and for you, Geri. As long as we, the next generation, remember him--and all who labored as Burton did--he still lives.

I met Mr. Joseph when he became a member of the Metropolitan Airports Commission representing Minneapolis. His position was difficult because of all of the environmental challenges the airport faced, especially noise pollution. Since the MAC board is appointed, not elected, he could have ignored the problems Minneapolis residents were having and not suffered any political consequences, but that was not his nature. Instead, he did everything he could to attenuate airport noise and make life better for our families. One of the reasons it is quieter in south Minneapolis now than it was then is because he served. Thousands of Minneapolis owe him a huge thank you for his efforts.

Dear Geri,

I heard a short while ago of Burton's passing on. It is sad to know that your wonderful husband is no longer with us. I send you my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Burton was such a wonderful, kind, generous, and engaging person. His friendship and good advice are among the most valuable and memorable gifts I have enjoyed. Whether it was talking about hockey, having a great conversation about politics and business, or visiting and learning about the Grain Exchange, how it works, and the importance of the Exchange to Minnesota, our nation, Burton always made it interesting and enlightening.

I am sorry that I will not be able to be with you, family and friends for services. The responsibilities of my job at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau keep me here in Washington DC.

I hope all is well with you and the rest of your family.
Sincerely, Skip Humphrey
