John Troutman

It's been almost a year since my brother,Bruce, crossed over this side to the other side to eternity to be with God. I miss him. We were separate entities until we reached our senior years when we communicated often even though hundreds of miles apart.. Bruce dearly loved his family. He was generous, almost to a fault, and he genuinely cared for people. He was a man's man and a child of God. I have been blessed to havae had Bruce as my brother. All who read this will see him again some day. My best to Diane and the rest of the Troutman clan.
God bless, John

To: Diane, children and grand children
We just heard of the passing of Bruce and he will be greatly missed by many of us. He was so faithful with the duties connected with the Board of Education American Legion Post. We remember him as being principal at some of the schools he served with excellent leadership. May God comfort you and your extended family at this time of sorrow and yet gratitude for such a dedicated life of serving others.

Dear "Hagar":
Well, you did it again . You must always "have your way." Back at C.T.C. you had to
"have your way" during practice teaching and darned near ended your career before it started.
Bret Harte School was never the same after you instituted new procedures in that sleepy
little Hyde Park school. You had to "have your way". When you opened Medger Evers School
you were so determined to have the building ready for the dedication service that you were
setting floor tiles faster than the workmen. You had to "have your way." You also had to
have the brother of Mr. Evers speak at the dedication service. You raised hundreds of dollars
to pay his expenses to come to Chicago. Well, he missed the train and the dedication service.
That did not slow you down a bit. You made immediate arrangements for Ben Scrutchions to
sub and the service went off perfectly.
When you transferred West, the "good old General Superintendent" moved you
back East. "OK, you handled that, but you still had to "have your way" so you applied for
Curie High School and went on vacation. In your absence you were transferred again, but
not to Curie, but to Cooley. The "powers" could not even get that right. And get this, there
was no more Cooley. It was now Near North Career Magnet High School. Zounds, what is this.
They built a new school to replace Cooley. They built it in the shadow of the Cabrini-Green
housing development on the site of the old Sieben's Brewery. An army of rats have been
living in that location since the Chicago fire. They were not going to move without a fight.
Well, you fought them and the rest of the "rats", and developed a fine school for the
pupils and the community. Again , you had to "have your way."
I always told you that your Irish-German lineage was OK, but in your case it should
have been reversed. Dad should have been Irish, and mother German. That way you MAY
have been less stubborn. You know, "the LACK of the IRISH" combined with the good sense
of the Teutons. I always admired the care and attention you paid your mother. Breakfast
together every day at 5:00 a.m. Beautiful. That was the real man. The attention you paid
to your sister-in-law was worthy of you and enhanced my respect for you. You were always
generous and "fast with a buck" for anyone who was "down and out." Your "gruff" manner
made me laugh for you always came up with the cash.
Yesterday you tried to "have it your way" again, but you were trumped.
HE HAD IT HIS WAY. Now it is final. It's time to close the book. Nothing can lessen the pain of your
loss, but time is tolerant and just. VIA CON DIOS OLD BUDDY. I miss you.

Dr. T., It was an honor to have known and worked with you. When I was a kid, I remember Saturday mornings when you would stop by to see my father. Later, I worked with you at Daley College and at Kelly H.S. during evening school. You taught me much and for that I thank you.
Please accept my deepest condolences to the Troutman family during this time.
