Brenda Turner Obituary

Turner, Brenda Diann Troy Age 79, a longtime Chicago resident, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 in North Charleston, SC. A Chicago Public Schools student, she attended Fisk University in Nashville, TN and Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, receiving a degree in Psychology. She moved to Toledo in the 60's and married the late J. Frank Troy. Served as Head Start Social Worker, Toledo Public Schools. After the passing of J. Frank Troy, Mrs. Turner returned to Chicago and began a 30-year career with Mercy Midlake Medical Group. Later in the 80's she and Theodore Turner were united in marriage; he preceded her in death. A member of several organizations, she enjoyed the arts, cultural, music and culinary events and activities and was an avid bridge player. In September 2015, she joined her daughter and son-in-law in North Charleston, SC. A longtime parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church in Chicago, and attended St. George's Episcopal Church in Summerville, SC. Daughter of Ann Gross and the late Arthur S. Barnes. Survived by loving daughter, Adrienne Troy Frazier (Herb); mother, Ann Gross; grandsons, Asim Hamilton and Seth Hamilton; great-grandson, Nathaniel Hamilton; brother, William Gordon (Sally); sister, Jacqueline Glover; cousin, James Williams (Rendy Jones), and a host of nieces, nephews and many adoring friends. Her adoptive parents, Adam and Maggie Jones preceded her in death. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, 12:00 Noon at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 E. 26th Street, Chicago. Family Visitation and Celebration Repast will follow Memorial Services immediately at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lupus Foundation of America (note on contribution - in honor of Brenda Turner), 2000 L Street, NW, Suite 410, Washington, DC 20036.
