Blair Korecky Obituary

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Blair Korecky, 86, of Grant City, a retired ironworker, died Tuesday in the Carmel Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills, where he had been a resident since 2011.

Born in Barnesboro, Pa., he was brought to Elizabeth, N.J., as a child. He moved to Grant City in 1960.

Mr. Korecky worked for 30 years as ironworker for Elizabeth Ironworks in Elizabeth, retiring in 1989.

He graduated from high school in Elizabeth and then served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class during World War II, from 1944 to 1946.

Mr. Korecky was a parishioner of St. Christopher's R.C. Church, Grant City. He enjoyed bird-watching and kept birdfeeders in his yard. He also enjoyed feeding ducks and taking his daughter to the duck pond near Moravian Cemetery in New Dorp.

Mr. Korecky also loved watching horseracing and playing golf when he was younger.

His wife of 42 years, the former June Ferrara, died in 2002.

"One thing everyone whoever met my father said about him all throughout his life was how sweet and kind-hearted he was," said his daughter, Bonnie Korecky.

The funeral will be Saturday at noon in the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills. Arrangements include cremation.
