BEVERLY DANIELS Obituary

Daniels, Beverly Lowe 93, educator, formerly of Chicago's Woodlawn, South Shore and Hyde Park neighborhoods, passed away May 17, 2015 peacefully and surrounded by love at home in Pahrump, NV. Beloved wife of the late Jack Elbert Daniels, Jr.; devoted mother of Roxane Clark-Murphy and Jack Elbert (Kimila) Daniels, III; loving stepmother of Kristin M. (the late William) Perkins; nurturing grandmother of Courtney, Ra'oof, Melody, Clais, Mustafa, Sharifah, Karen Rebecca, and Brian; great-grandmother, mentor, and friend of many. Preceded in death by parents, Dorothy Clarke Lowe and Dr. Cornelius V. Lowe, and two grandchildren, Jack Daniels, IV and Camille Yvette Burns. An avid bridge player, she was always concerned with the welfare of others above her own. She earned a B.A. in religion from DePaul University, a second B.A. in Business Administration and Education from the University of Chicago, and an M.A. in Education, Guidance and Counseling from Chicago Teachers College. Beverly served as a teacher at Englewood High School (her high school Alma Mater), Teacher and Guidance Counselor at Parker High School, and Assistant Principal at Forestville High School and retired having been the Principal of Horace Mann Elementary. Prior to earning her degrees and embarking on a long and successful career in education, she was a veteran of World War II. For many years Beverly was a Co-Leader of the Pilgrim Fellowship for young people at Park Manor Church and a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Alumni chapter of Chicago. After the passing of her husband Jack, she moved to Las Vegas to be closer to her children. Memorial service in Chicago is pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Delta Literacy Project, c/o Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, P.O. Box 497639, Chicago, IL 60649, 773-538-0836. Mrs. Daniels was my principal when I was transferred from a northside school to a south side school in an effort to stimulate racial integration (I am white). That was in 1977. I was young and eager to teach and so I commuted across the miles so I could teach. Mrs. Daniels was so dignified and present. She seemed so mighty to me and I wanted to be the best teacher I could be as I wanted her to respect me. Not sure she ever did, but I respected her as she had one goal.....the education of her children at Horace Mann School.

She valued discourse and was one of the greatest educational leaders I have ever worked for or known. Beverly Normand, Ph.D.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Mrs. Beverly Daniels. She was my Principal at Horace Mann from 1977- until she retired. She was a Principal that knew her students and knew the families. She instilled in a us a sense of pride as she walked the halls of Horace Mann. My family and I still talk about how great a school Horace Mann was and it all started with Mrs. Daniels. Mrs. Daniels' memory lives on in those of us who were blessed to have been a part of the Horace Mann family while she was there.

I loved this woman! She was my principal at Horace Mann and I graduated in 1981. She knew the parents like she knew her family. She was an exceptional educator. I am very sorry to hear of her passing. She is already receiving hugs from my mother in Heaven. Prayers to her family! Attorney Shari Gladney

So sorry for your lost. My your family allow you to talk when the need arises and be quiet when that need arises as well. Our Lord and Savior Jesus new how to do that perfectly as stated in 2 Chronicles 6:29 where it states " Each one has his own pain and his own plaque".
From someone who has lost as well.
