We would like to extend our deepest regrets on the passing of Mr. Karlin. Our dad, Arthur Albert, who passed away in March of 2002, was a referree with Mr. Karlin many years ago in the NYA Little League Basketball program. He always had nothing but the highest praise for Mr. Karlin and his abilities and gave him all the credit for teaching our dad the ins and outs of officiating and consequently our dad became quite an outstanding referee in his own right. Even in later years after he had long hung up his whistle, we would be watching a basketball game on TV and our dad would sometimes mention Mr Karlin as the man who taught him everthing he new about officiating. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they were up there now, working a game together.
Sincerely yours,
Alan & Jack Albert

My condolences to the family. Mr. Karlin was such an inspirational leader and I learned so much from him. I always appreciated his joie de vivre. Our Family Guidance Center newsletter was the work of two kindred souls. We enjoyed creating each issue as if it were the first. I will remember him always and he will be missed by many.

I fondly remember working with Mr. Karlin when he arrived at the Key School. He was the BEST principal I have ever known in 34 years with the Chgo Bd of Ed. He mentored me while he was at Montefiore to assist in my Administration quest. He will be missed.

I first met Bernie Karlin when he visited Skinner School for district meetings. He always just peeked in, smiled and waved at my Special Education class but never introduced himself. A few years later I went to Montefiore on a friend's suggestion and there he was again. His office and my classroom were both full of photos and piles of stuff. It was an instant match. I always treasured my time working with Bernie. He who was a leader who modeled a real hands-on philosophy and encouraged us all with his caring, relationship-based approach. Bernie later put me into his library and celebrated my growth. He will truly be missed. He was one of the few really great administrators and nicest men I have had the pleasure of working both for and with. My sincere condolences to all of his family and friends who were his greatest love and pride.

Dear Kathy and Family,
I read of your father's death with great sorrow. I had met him a few times and he was such a lovely classy person. I know that he was a wonderful principal.
Molly had mentioned that he had been quite ill when I saw her a few weeks ago. But, one is really never quite prepared for the finality of losing a loved one.

I will never forget all the leadership qualities Mr. Karlin showed as a gym teacher at the Drummond School. I worked for the Board of Education after college, and I met him once at the
Montefiore School. I was surprised and delighted that he remembered me. I will never forget him as long as I live. I read once that every student has a handful of teachers he will always remember and admire. Mr. Karlin was one of those teachers I had in my life.
