Jan, Reggie, Tina, Terry, Bonnie & Malcolm, and everybody, please find
attached a copy of my poem about
Barry... titled Memories of Barry Steele.

I've got to tell this story...
A tale I must reveal.
It's all about a kid I knew.
His name was Barry Steele.

His building was on Troy Street--
Eleven Seventeen.
This structure was the tallest one
That I had ever seen.

The Steeles lived on the 1st floor.
Grandmama - up on Three.
The second floor was occupied
By R.B.'s family.

Now, Barry knew his neighborhood -
The place where he was born.
He'd knock upon Grandmama's door
Early in the morn.

He greeted her, "Aunt Mary" -
Granddaddy, "Uncle M".
I wondered why he called them that?
(Duh!) That's who they were to him.

Our visits to the West Side
Were always filled with fun.
We'd play, & play, & play some more.
We'd rip, and then we'd run.

My Memories of Barry Steele
Forever will endure.
The kinship that we shared was real.
Of that, you can be sure.

Much love to my family,

Your cousin,

Reece

Happy New Year to all the family & friends of my cousin,Barry Steele.
Of the many things that I will remember about Barry, his hearty laughter will always ring clear, especially when I think about how impressed he was by the comedian who opened at the Nancy Wilson concert on 10/22/95, after my parents' anniversary celebration. Barry was so tickled that his laughter set off the whole concert audience. It was a Kodak/Memorex moment for sure. God bless each and every one of you in this new year, and may your memories of Barry always keep him close to your hearts.

To the Steele Family,
I posted an entry that I believe Barry would want us to receive and be mindful of. We all miss him so much but above all, we must remember he loved us and that his family was important to him and we must care for each other unconditionally! This was the practice that Barry lived!
Bonnie and Malcolm, hang in there! I know it get hard but remember that love will see you through! I love you guys and I will always be a phone call away!

Barry, I miss talking to you every week so much. I wish I had known that our time together would be so short. But I know that you know I love you with all my heart and always have. Thank you for making my teenage years great and my adult years even better! Thank you for sharing in all of my "good" days, such as the birth of my children, the many graduations, my marriage, the purchase of my home, etc. For these all things and more! You are the best brother anyone could have ever asked for. I will keep the light burning!
I Love you now and forever!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to Barry's family. He was without question one of the best people I have ever known. Barry was my mentor from day one in the Illinois Dept. of Corrections and words cannot express the level of my sorrow at his passing. God Bless.
