I met Barbara at Ox Bow over 40 years ago. She would pile us into her Volvo and take us to Billy's Bar in town. I loved sending her "nature boxes" with objects that I collected over the holiday. She always graciously accepted them. I remember a retrospective that was, I think at New Trier several years ago. And more recent at Daiter Gallery. I feel like I always will have a connection to Barbara. Alice

In 1986 Barbara was key to launching my interest in collecting photography. Brunch at her home surrounded by esteemed colleagues made an indelible impression. Her imaginative view of the world inspired me to continually test my own limits. Her generosity is still obvious on the walls of my home and remains a starting point for discussions of my collection. I will miss her and send my heartfelt condolences to her family.

Have wonderful memories of when Barbara was a good friend and next door neighbor in Rye, NY. These were the early days of my marriage and a time when we both had our first children.

Barbara Crane was my photographer teacher at the School of the Art Inst. of Chicago in the 70s. She was not only the best teacher I had ever had in my life but one who had a lasting impact on my life and work. She taught more than photography. She taught me how to be an artist and instilled the discipline required to do the work. She taught me to be dedicated and patient and how to handle the inevitable frustration and mistakes along the way. She connected with her students in a way that few can. I have not only never forgotten her, she has guided me through the decades with my camera in hand, in every shot I take. Her teachings live on through me and countless other students and we have passed on her teachings; I to my own students of photography. In this way she will continue to live on. My condolences to her family.
God bless you Barbara.

We met Barbara when she was 90, and fell head over heels for her teen spirit and sense of humor. We will cherish our wonderful memories of being with Barbara and John, laughing and sharing stories. Our thoughts and prayers are with family.
