Arvona G. Greene
Walnut Creek, CA
Arvona G. Greene, 91, died at home in Walnut Creek, CA, on October 11, 2010. She was born in Utica, NY, on January 31, 1919, to George Gangloff and Katherine (Jones) Gangloff. She graduated from Utica Free Academy, St. Lukes School of Nursing, Massachusetts General School of Anesthesia in Boston and Arizona State University, Tempe. She worked for 35 years in various areas of nursing and retired in 1980 from her position as a nursing instructor at Glendale College in Arizona. Arvona was a voracious reader and enjoyed travel and spending time with her family. In retirement, she volunteered tutoring adults and children in reading and math. A talented seamstress, she made crafts to fundraise for the Penn Valley Volunteer Fire Department. She will be fondly remembered for her warm smile and kind, caring personality. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gordon C. Greene; her sisters, Doris Moran and Marion Fox; and a succession of trusty Boston Terriers. Arvona is survived by her son, Peter C. Greene and wife, Randi; daughter, Pat Morris and husband, Ray; and grandchildren, Dawn and Trevor Greene, and Mary (Molly) and Mickey Morris. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary, Grass Valley, CA. Her ashes will be scattered with her husbands over Lake Tahoe. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 on Saturday, November 13th, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church (chapel), Walnut Creek, CA. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, Grass Valley, CA.
