Vanderporten, April (nee Arany) 65, of Lincolnwood, passed away December 30, 2014. Beloved wife of Bruce; loving mother of Kevin (Susan) and Steven (Caidi, fiance'); dearest sister of Lawrence (Ruth Ann) Arany; fond aunt of Michael (Julia) and Thomas (Kara) Arany and great-aunt of Avery; devoted friend of many. April earned a masters degree in nursing, was an avid volunteer and a cherished member of her community. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and the theater. Her warmth and kindness will be greatly missed by everyone she touched. Funeral Saturday, January 3rd, 10:00 a.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago. April and I have been friends since 1978, when we both worked in the Day Treatment Center at West Side VA. We have shared triumphs and sadnesses and have always been there for each other thru good and bad. April was a kind, empathetic, loyal friend, who always thought about others' needs and tried to help them. She brought me joy, peace and a sincere sense of being loved. Harry Chapin once wrote: "IF a woman took her time on earth, and proved before she died, what ONE woman's life could be worth, well I wonder what would happen to this world." April truly made the world a better place to be. I am so grateful that she shared her life with me. Anne
