Paterno, Sr., Anthony

Anthony Paterno Sr, age 84, of Sun City West AZ and formerly of Chicago IL, passed away at his home, Wednesday May 29, 2024. He was born October 23, 1939, to Henry and Elvira (LaCivita) Paterno in Chicago IL. Loving husband of Cathleen (Barrett) Paterno; devoted father of Anthony (Janet) Paterno, Daniel (Jeff) Paterno, Julie (Larry) Damico, Christopher (Tasha) Paterno and Mark (Lisa) DiDomenico. Dearest grandfather "Pops" of Kyle (Claire) DiDomenico, Luke Paterno, Larry Damico, Carly (Jordan) Hedge, Anna (Justin) Stenger, Lily Paterno, Anthony Damico, and Hera Paterno. Great-grandfather to Elzie Hedge, Bodie Hedge and Julian Stenger. Cherished uncle and cousin to many. He was preceded in death by wives Annamarie (Conti) Paterno and Gloria (Demarco) Paterno.

Anthony was a 1957 graduate of St Ignatius high school. He was Chicago Lawn's favorite mail carrier for over 35 years while also moonlighting as a custodian at the Chicago Public Library in Clearing. When he retired, he mentored young people as a volunteer teacher's assistant at Liberty Junior High in Burbank. His selfless service to the school earned him recognition as "Someone You Should Know" on a Channel 2 news feature in 2010.

On June 24th, 2024, his ashes were interred at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:00 am on July 13th, 2024, at St Bernards Catholic Church, 13030 W. 143rd St in Homer Glen, Il.
