I am truly saddened by Tony's passing and wish his loved ones all the best. I loved every visit to Tony over the past 12 years, which started with my uncle recommending him after being Tony's customer himself for 25+ years.
Tony was a true gentleman and a gift to the neighborhood and all who knew him.
"Keep coming back until I do it right"
You did great, Tony. We miss you.

Mete Family,
I was saddened to hear of Tony's passing. I've been going to Tony for mine and my son's haircuts for 26 years, since he was only 2 years old. Just going in and talking to Tony, a good man, was like having an extra uncle, brother, and friend. I would often stop in even when I didn't need a haircut just to have some coffee, listen to bad music, watch the Cubs game, shoot the breeze, and see what was new in the shop. Tony was a legend, an institution, and words can not express the ways in which he will be missed. Good thing I'm balding!

Mete Family:
Just learned of Tony's passing. I had the privilege of Tony's good haircuts and bad taped music for 30 years. I always looked forward to going to the shops he had on Clark. I will miss him. My prayers go out to you.

My deepest condolences go out to Tony's family and friends. I cannot add much to the sentiments expressed here: they already provide a portrait of the loss we have felt.
I knew Tony through his business at the barber shop on Clark Street, where I benefited from his tonsorial art for more than 10 years. Something about those visits with Tony makes a decade seem like no time at all. I will always remember his unique gift of rapport and his Italian humor (not to mention the fine haircuts). He was a genuine institution. He will be sorely missed!

I am sorry to hear Tony had passed away. I had been getting hair cuts from him since about 1977. He also cut my whole families hair, uncluding my dad Harry, my mother Marie, my grandmother Pauline and her second husband Nat and even my niece Katie when she was little. Last time I was there I even had my dog with, as we were going to visit my dad in the nursing home. He was a good guy and we will all miss him. Michael, Marie and Harry, Cristol. Chicago,Illinois

Stopped by to visit Tony last August with my brother John. Though I have lived in New England for almost 30 years, he remembered me!
He cut my hair many times as a teenager. A good man who now belongs to the ages.

I went to the shop today and was heartbroken to see that Tony had died. I was a relative short term customer (8 years) but always enjoyed the great experience of stopping in for a cut. He was a friend to me and many others, a neighborhood institution, and always expressed great love for his family. I'll miss him and think about him asking, "They let you have a job with your hair like this?" every time I let it get too long.

I was a customer of Tony's for the past 7 or 8 years. He was an expert barber, but more important a truly wonderful person to be around. He had such a warm rapport with his customers, many of whom had patronized his shop for practically their whole lives. I always looked forward to visiting his shop. I would often bring my young daughter with me, and when she didn't come along Tony's standard query was "Where is your bodyguard today?" I enjoyed his stories about the trolleys on Clark Street and his vacation travels. I can only imagine how difficult his sudden passing must be for Erika and the rest of his family. My heart goes out to all of you. Father Grassi had it right at his service today - especially with Tony, that twenty minutes in the chair was like getting a free dose of psychological and emotional relief with your haircut. He was a special person and he will be missed by many.

He was a lovely man and one of God's own. I was shocked in learning about Tony's passing. He has cut my boy's hair for 26 years. My husband has been a customer of Tony's for 30 years, and my husband's uncle was a customer for a longer period of time. He will truly be missed.

I've known Tony for only about 5 years, but several friends were patrons of the shop and urged me to go there. I found Tony to be a wonderful man and I delighted in his stories of his annual treks to Mexico, and recent trips to Italy.
I urged several of my friends to use Tony as their barber.
He will be missed by many people.
His sudden passing was a shock.
I wish the best for his family.

Mete Family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I have known Tony since I was kid. My father used to go to Tony's shop to get his regular clip. Tony will be missed. My Daughter Samantha loved going with my husband to Tony's shop and being able to go into the display case to get her lollypop, she was telling us that the last time she was there Tony told her if you keep growing and when you are taller then me no more lollypops for you .... and then he smiled and laughed. It was always a comfort to know that he was on Clark street in his usual spot. R.I.P.

I am so shocked to hear of this loss! The greatest barber I've ever had, and a true friend. Life will just not be the same any more without my pilgrimages back to the old neighborhood to see Tony, and listen to his tapes and CD's, and watch the World Cup when Italy was doing well! My son's picture has been hanging on his wall for years. My sincere condolences to the entire family on this tremendous loss. Edgewater has lost one of its finest ambassadors and will be much the worse for it.

Mete Family,
I was shocked and sorrowed to here of my friend Tony's passing. I had planned on bringing my father in law Willie McDermott in next weekend for our regular clip. Our prayers are with all of you and may my barber of close to 40 years rest in peace.
