Master Sergeant Tony “SHOES” Delaurentis Retired U.S.A.R, friend, fellow Soldier, my gumba. I befriended Tony back in the mid 1970's as a fellow “Citizen Soldier” proudly protecting our great country while assigned to the United States Army Reserves (USAR), 85th Division, Maneuver Training Command (MTC), Fort Sheridan, IL. ). We served together in the 85th MTC for well over ten years. As a Soldier, Tony was always was leaning forward in his foxhole, never disgruntled, never defeated and with a full heart for all his comrades and friends. I left Chicago and went back on active duty with the USAR and over the next twenty five years our families retained true friendship and saw each other when possible. Wow, what a time we have had and a good time always even through the bad times of heartache.
I have been awarded the Ancient Order of Saint Christopher from the U.S. Army, Tony; you will never be left behind my friend. I promise to carry you along with our other departed “gumbas” – SFC Tom Marsh, MSG Ralph Sieble, SFC David Humphrey, SGM Butch Granger, MSG Ken Coats (respectfully). All of our life's live on through the memories to be shared for generations to come. God Bless you.
