Allan Monroe Obituary

Monroe, Allan H. On the morning of November 6, he left this world. Many knew the tall, elegant man with the long, gray pony-tail and the deep voice, but few knew of his accomplishments. After graduating from the University of Chicago, he was a founding professor at Moraine Valley Community College and taught English, communications, and humanities for 25 years. During that time, he was President of the Moraine Valley Teachers Association for more than five years and served on the Executive Committee for several years before that. One of his colleagues said, "When I think of the union, the union is Allan Monroe." After he retired from teaching, he became a well known actor and model. Portraits, sketches, and statues of Allan grace many places in the school of the Art Institute of Chicago and private galleries. Allan's generosity exceeded his means. Among the causes and charities he supported are the American Civil Liberties Union, the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago, the Humane Society of the United States, and many other animal welfare organizations. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his son Michael, his daughter Victoria, his daughter Jocelyn, and his dear aunt Irene. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of the United States (www.hsus.org.)

A very dear, close friend.He was a friend to my sister, Lynne, also.She passed away 3 years ago.I know she would have been devastated if he had gone first.He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. TO THE FAMILY OF MR. MONROE;

I HAD PICKED TO TAKE A CLASS AT MORAINE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE BACK IN 1982. IT WAS COMMUNICATIONS 101. MR. MONROE WAS MY TEACHER. WHAT A GREAT TEACHER. WHEN IT CAME TO PICK COM 102, I CHOSE MR. MONROE. I HAD LEARNED SO MUCH FROM HIM. WHAT A GREAT MAN AND TEACHER. I AM SURE THAT HE WILL BE MISSED SO MUCH. MY GOD BLESS HIS SOUL. YOU SEE, I JUST LOST MY 45 YEAR OLD BROTHER TO A HEART ATTACK. IT WAS SUDDENLY IN JULY. I KNOW WHAT LOSS IS. AND YOUR LOSS IS SURELY A GREAT ONE GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY.

I met Allan when I was stage managing "Ten Little Indians." He was a gentleman and a fine actor.
