Alfred Domina Obituary

HUDSON FALLS * Alfred Ernest "Fred" Domina, 88, of Feeder Street, Hudson Falls, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illnesss.

Alfred was born on Jan. 16, 1919, in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of the late Alfred Ernest Domina and Izella (Bissy) Domina of Providence, R.I.

Alfred served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II, earning several medals. A metal covered a Bible that he faithfully carried in the breast pocket of his Army uniform and saved his life when struck by an enemy bullet. His wife and family received notices of his death, when lost behind enemy lines more than once, but God spared his life.

He retired from General Electric Company after 40 years of service and was also a school bus driver briefly for Hudson Falls School District and for many years with Queensbury School District.

Alfred loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. For most of his adult life he held many volunteer positions in Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hudson Falls, such as, Sunday school teacher, usher, board member, helping in the day care center and custodian. He was very faithful in unlocking and locking the church daily. Alfred did anything and everything that was asked of him and more. His family and his church could always count on him to be there when he needed.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Alta (Manley) Domina; three sisters, a brother, his sons-in-law, John King and Jerrie Chard, a brother-in-law, Elias Clinton Manley, two nieces and a nephew.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Betty (Jeremy) Domina of Hudson Falls; his four children: Shirley Lupino and her husband, the Rev. August Lupino, of Waynesboro, Va.; Rev. Ronald Domina and his wife, Karen, of Rochester; Elizabeth (King) Braman and her husband, Simeon, of Stony Creek, and Sheila (Chard) Harrington and her husband, Paul, of Hudson Falls; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

At Alfred's request, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service.

All friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate his life on Saturday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at New Beginnings Community Church, 529 Lower Oak St., Fort Edward.

A time of fellowship and refreshments will be hosted by the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alfred's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY 12804.

Fred was my favorite drummer. Fred and Betty spent quite a few years playing music in area Nursing Homes with me. We always had a great time. The residents loved Fred and he was always such a gentleman. I miss those days and I am sure he's joined the band in Heaven. His was a special talent, great drumming and a brought great joy to others. I will always cherish those days.

Fred was a most holy man who loved the Lord with all his heart, mind and soul. It was my great honor, privilege and blessing to pray together with him and his beloved wife, Betty, during his visits to the hospital. He has touched my soul.
