Albert De Meo Obituary

De Meo, Albert age 83, of Schererville, IN, passed peacefully while at St. Anthony Hospital of Crown Point. Born June 20, 1926 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Antonio and Sarah (nee Geneviese) De Meo. He and his love, Marion Nelson, were wed August 3, 1946 and spent 50 happy years together before her passing. Albert worked as a Chicago union carpenter for many years and retired with a 50 year gold card. Along with working at the McCormick Place of Chicago, he also ran his own business, Al's Carpentry and Construction. Mr. De Meo volunteered for over 40 years for the Special Olympics as well. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, playing the accordion, tinkering in the workshop non-stop, and he also was a great Italian cook known for homemade Christmas ravioli. His presence will be missed and his memory forever cherished by all who knew and loved Albert. Surviving to mourn his passing are two devoted children, Barbara (Jim) Griffin and Linda De Meo, both of Schererville, IN, his loving eldest sister, Lillian (late Leonard) Stanek of Yorkville, IL, two cherished grandchildren, Amanda Griffin of Schererville, IN and Jason (Susan) Griffin of Cedar Lake, IN, his beloved great-grandson Zachary Griffin, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family invites relatives and friends to visit Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (1/2 mile S of US 30), Schererville, IN on Sunday, January 10th, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will take place in the funeral home on Monday, January 11th, at 10:00 a.m. At rest, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Memorial gifts in his name may be made to the Special Olympics, 605 E. Willow St., Normal, IL 61761. Information: 219-365-9554

To know Al was to love Al. He didn't know a stranger and always had a story to tell and an ear to hear what was happening in his friends lives. He was a pleasure to know and will be missed. Scott and I are very sorry for your loss.
