Our beloved Alan is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 27 years, Nancy Finkle Wagner; his mother Zena Wagner; siblings Sue (Neal Leonard), Jeffrey (Debra Pacchiano Wagner) and Myra (Glen Spear); aunt Miriam Wagner; cherished nieces and nephews Lauren, Michael and Jamie Leonard; Jacob, Gabriel, Aron and Ethan Wagner; Jacob, Lena and Natan Spear; James (Rachel), Zara and Yoni Finkle; Kevin (Ali) Finkle; Lily, and Maddie Finkle; many cousins and countless friends. For the past 17 years, Alan worked with the internal business intelligence and analytics group at Verizon. Every life Alan touched was made better by his presence, his love, his humor and his devotion. He had a huge heart, cared deeply about his family and was a friend and mensch to all. We will plan a celebration of Alan's life once people are permitted to gather together again. A memorial scholarship fund has been established in honor of Alan to benefit the Music Programs and Students of the River Trails School District, where Nancy is Superintendent. Alan was a mentor to me in my career. He was a trusted ally in very turbulent waters. I was literally just thinking of him this morning and thought, "I should call him up." When I found no corporate number for him, I searched online. We were very different in many ways but always, always found common ground and built our friendship on that and our shared unusual sense of humor. He passed me a quote one time that I still carry with me to this day.

I am so sad about this. Alan was kind and funny. His house was on my way to elementary school and we often walked to school together. He was great company and I loved talking to him. Later, we both worked at Ed Debevics and it was tons of fun to be around his infectious energy. To his family, I am so very sorry for your loss. May his memory be for a blessing.

To Alan's family please accept my condolences along with my wife Bonnie. I've got fond childhood memories getting together with Alan and his family for the holidays, he was very entertaining. Last time I saw him was at Lou Malnati's in Northbrook a little while back and he seemed in great spirits. I'm sorry about his passing and hope that his family finds comfort in one another during these difficult times. Sincerely, Eric Bachenheimer

Knowing Alan was like meeting an old friend from the first day you met him. In high school he included me in his weekend plans with friends when it felt like no one would. In college he studied in Iowa City, and gave me a ride from Cedar Rapids back to Chicago. Recently he picked up groceries for my parents. He was generous and kind, responsible and dedicated. He had his own unique brand of humor that filled the room. We are so grateful that he was in our lives. My folks and I share your grief...Thank you Alan, for being Alan.

For those of you that knew Alan only as an adult, I wish you would have known the little boy that many years ago was my friend. I had seen him from time to time and he was still the same. Always a smiling, ready for a good story certainly living life to the fullest. My wife and I are deeply saddened by his passing.
