I remember Alan as he was my brothers age and both attended South Shore High School. My friend was Alans younger brother Gary, someone I spent my first dozen or so years with. Our families lived a block away from each other and as a consequence, we knew each other well. In fact I remember watching Alans and Garys father Ben destroy anyone foolish enough to play handball against him. Alan was active even as a teenager as Gary and I watched.
Our familys lives were altered as our living locations changed. What did not change were the wonderful memories of two families growing up in South Shore, sharing the wonderment of a long past time.
Alan we miss you but know that many of us remember you fondly-as a young teenager, a lawyer, as the leader in many activities and of course the father and grandfather of a loving family.

So sorry to hear about Alan. I knew Alan from South Side Hebrew as kids and thru South Shore High. We were also connected thru our extended family and friends all the way back to the old west side of our parents. I ran into Alan at Or Shalom after 50 years, as my grandchildren were in Hebrew School there, like Alan's. It was really nice to see him. My deepest condolences to the family.

Played handball with Alan all the way back in the Horwich JCC days, right through his final games at the Leaning Tower Y. Was a great friend and team captain. We'll miss him every time we play. Thoughts are with his family.

My family lived down the block on Yates Avenue with the Loibens and I spent all my grammar school and high school years as a classmate and friend of Alan's. We shared a locker all of our high school years. I most want to remember and honor Alan's grace and courage in his fight with cancer. He never expressed any self pity or solicited sympathy. There was just this big heart, warmth and openness that shown through. Alan's dignity and character in these circumstances was a model I could never expect to match. Alan was always willing to help, never asking for thank yous. When I think of Alan that word that keeps coming up is "mensch." Alan was a total mensch. He defined that word, doing good, being good, and never expecting anything in return. I will miss Alan greatly. His open, warm and unassuming way exemplified the best we could be, and in many ways he was the quiet "soul" of our high school class.

Alan was a longtime friend from South Shore High School and BBYO. He was also an integral member of our high school reunion committee. He will live forever in his friends' memories.

Alan and I were friends throughout high school and beyond. He always had a smile, a hug and a compliment whenever I saw him. He was upbeat about his cancer treatment and never complained. My condolences to his family.

One of the nicest people I've known, always had a kind word and a wonderful broad smile. Ever since our days at SSHS I thought of him as a friend and then a hero, never complaining, always looking ahead. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

It is with great sadness that we learned about Al's death. Our friendship began over six decades ago...through school years, AZA, BBG, Sammies and beyond.
Our deepest condolences to all of you.
