Adele Fanning Obituary

Fanning, Adele Arrowsmith Born December 14, 1928 to Francis Donald Arrowsmith and Josephine Pogue Arrowsmith of Short Hills, New Jersey went to her Lord on April 17, 2014. She graduated from the Kent School and completed her education at Vassar College. She married William Brown McIlvaine and raised four children, William, Phelps, Marian and Bruce. Adele made wonderful homes for all her families in Lake Forest, IL, Montreal and Knowlton PQ, Burlington ON, Edwards, CO, Los Angeles, CA and most recently with her husband, Mr. Philip F. N. Fanning in Unionville, PA. A lifelong landscape architect and garden designer, Adele created beautiful places wherever she lived. Adele loved the outdoors and became a skilled fly fisher and hunter at the Blooming Grove Hunting & Fishing Club in Hawley, PA and as a member of the Wausaukee Club of Athelstane, WS. Adele adored Norfolk terriers and had the wonderful little dogs with her throughout her life. Adele was a proud member of the Colonial Dames as well as various local and national garden clubs. She proudly flies the American flag dedicated to her fallen grandson US Navy LTJG William B. McIlvaine III outside her kitchen window. Adele is survived by her husband, Phillip F. N. Fanning of Unionville, PA; her son William McIlvaine and daughter-in-law Stephan and their daughters Leigh and Julia and son Jon; her son Phelps McIlvaine and daughter-in-law Amy and their children, Hanna, Cole and Ava McIlvaine; her daughter Marian Olson and son-in-law Tim Olson and their son Nicholas; and her son Bruce McIlvaine and his daughter Quincy and son Austin. Adele was predeceased by her brother, Donald Arrowsmith and by husbands, Phillip Manker of Chicago, IL and William C. Douglas of Lake Forest, IL.
