Loren Dickey Obituary

Loren Leslie Dickey (aka Radio Guy) was born June 2, 1951 to Raymond E Dickey and Doris M Jennings in Portland, Oregon.

Loren grew up in southeast Portland attending Gilbert Elementary and David Douglas High School. Loren participated in scouting, especially enjoying Explorer Scouts where he was on a search and rescue team.

On graduation from high school Loren joined the US Navy where he was trained in Sonar and Radio Mechanics. Loren served six years, 1969-1975, aboard the USS Dennis J Buckley and the USS Rowan where he received a Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnam Service Medal. Loren was Honorably Discharged and in 1976 began community college classes.

In 1980 he was hired by Mt. Hood National Forest, the beginning of a long career with the US Forest Service as a Radio Technician. This provided many opportunities to be outdoors which he loved. In 1987 Loren transferred to the Siuslaw National Forest and in 1992 to the Gallatin National Forest. Loren retired in January 2008 as Lead Electronics Technician for the US Forest Service. He continued his career working for Northern Rockies Incident Management and eventually retired from there as Lead Communications Officer for Forest Fires. Loren manned command posts all over the west coast, providing valuable information to those on the ground fighting fires.

While working for the Mt. Hood National Forest, Loren met and married Laura Lampton.

Together they had two fine sons, Ian and Christopher. When the boys were young Loren and family moved to Bozeman, Montana, and when the marriage dissolved Loren moved to Belgrade.

In 1998 Loren met Teresa Browning and they married in 2004.Loren and Teresa enjoyed many happy years together taking care of each other through sickness and health; she was constantly by his side during his final days of life,

Loren was loved and survived by his wife, Teresa, son Ian (Allison) Dickey and son Christopher Dickey of Portland, Oregon. Loren had two stepsons, Adam (Catherine) Browning of Bozeman and Aaron Browning of Ohio. Loren's siblings are brother Neal (Carolyn) Dickey and sister Susan (James) Mankins of Oregon. There are four nieces and nephews and one step grandson who will all miss him very much.

Per Loren's request no formal service will be held.
