Alice Koenig-Kovach Obituary

Alice Koenig-Kovach, born on Apr 30, 1925 in Princes Bay, Staten Island, NY, passed away on Jan 05, 2011 in Neptune, NJ.

Obituary

She was born in Princes Bay, Staten Island, NY and lived there until moving to New Jersey in 1963. She lived in several towns throughout Monmouth County before moving to Tinton Falls 11 years ago. Alice graduated from Tottenville High School in 1943. While in high school she performed in several productions such as The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance. She was a member of the Tottenville High School Band and had the opportunity to play under the direction of the famed conductor Edwin Franko Goldman at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. Alice was also a member of many church choirs and could play several musical instruments. She was a proud member of the Pythian Sunshine Girls that has been in existence since 1930. It is a junior order of the Pythian Sisters, whose purpose is to lay a foundation of purity, service and usefulness in all things that help to make the lives of those around us happier and the world a better place to live in. Alice was a member of the Princes Bay Dutch Reformed Church. It is there that she began her association with the Rev. Dr. Winfield Burggraaff who became her inspirational guidance throughout her life.

After high school, Alice married Charles Kovach, Jr. a WWII Army Air Corp veteran on January 26, 1946. Alice worked as a nurse for physicians, several nursing homes, and Riverview Medical Center. She gave private music lessons, was a crossing guard in Middletown, and a security guard at the Garden State Arts Center. She retired after working as an activities director at the Garden State Manor Nursing Home in Holmdel.

Alice was an extremely thoughtful and special individual who shared her various talents in sewing, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, painting, baking, music, and other types of arts and crafts with her friends and family. She won several first place awards at the Monmouth County Fair in a number of categories. Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of so many people through her many talents, sense of humor, compassion, and great wisdom.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Charles Kovach; her parents, Eleanor and Fred Koenig; her brother Fred Robert Koenig; nephew, Dean Millman and son-in-laws Charles Bishop and Peter Surdi. She is survived by her two sisters, Eleanor Millman of Santaquin, Utah and Eloise Koenig of Monroe Township, NJ; two sons and daughter in-law, Richard C. Kovach and Maureen Kovach  of Tinton Falls, and Robert L. Kovach of Apopka FL; three daughters and son-in-law Elise M. Bishop of Lake Mary, FL, Dr. Nancy L. Kovach-Surdi of Tinton Falls, and Alice J. Kovach-Suehn and William Suehn of Apopka, FL; seven grandsons, Kenneth, Michael and Thomas Bishop and Chase, Mark, Aaron and Adam Kovach; two grand-daughters, Caroline and Stephanie Kovach; two great-granddaughters Toni Strollo and Mackenzie Bishop; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Kenneth Bishop, Jr. and step-great-grandson Sean Booz; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friend Doris Corlew.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at Posten’s Funeral Home, 59 E. Lincoln Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, NJ on Tuesday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM. On Wednesday January 12th, funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by a 10:30 AM church service at Central Baptist Church, 28 E. Highland Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown, NJ. Messages of condolences may be emailed to [email protected] and will be received by the family.

Dearest Mother!
How could my words ever express enough of my love for you. I miss you so very much every minute of my life. You were the Greatest Mother and friend to me. I have such a sad heart and I know it will need several years to mend. Now your with Dad and I know your that awesome angel in heaven. Thank you for being there for me through out my life and for giving me your name. I will always cherish you and pray for you daily. Everyone I meet will always know what your goodness has been in my life, and my Love for you unending.

Dear family,I wish I could be there to say goodby to Grandma.I consider her my Grandma.She treated me like a Granddaughter..I will miss talking with her and listening to her talking about her past..And seeing her laugh...
