Cheryl Scheck Obituary

SCHECK, Cheryl

Cheryl Scheck, 64, passed peacefully in the loving care of Emory Hospital in Atlanta, on September 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends.

Born on September 7, 1960, in Cincinnati, OH, raised in northern Kentucky, Cheryl called Atlanta her home for most of her adult life. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's in Business and Marketing and was a lifelong, avid Wildcats fan. Cheryl enjoyed an impressive 35 year career with Delta Air Lines in various marketing leadership roles.

In her retirement years, Cheryl was very active in volunteer work, serving on the Board of Directors for both the Oncology Nurse Certification Corp., and Lifeline Animal Project. Pets became her passion. To better serve her homeless canine friends, she became a certified professional dog trainer and dedicated volunteer at Best Friends Animal Society and the Fulton County Animal Shelter.

Cheryl is remembered for her bright smile, generosity, innovation, loyalty and passion for people and dogs. She was never afraid to try something new and encouraged others to do the same. Whether she was offering a listening ear, sharing wisdom or simply being there in times of need, she made the world a brighter place for all who knew her.

She touched the lives of many, giving selflessly to her colleagues, family, friends, and the rescue dogs who she worked diligently to foster, train, advocate for and get adopted.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Richard Scheck; and stepfather, Gary Rimer; and survived by her mother, Jane Rimer; sisters, Debbie Blessing (Jon) and Amy Becker (Doug); nieces, Malinda and Macie; nephews, Aiden and Garrett, great-niece, Kensley; and great-nephews, Noah and Braxton.

The family would like to thank the competent and compassionate medical team at Emory Winship Cancer Institute and her devoted friends who offered continuous support throughout her journey.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Cheryl at 10:00 AM on November 15, 2024, at her church, St. Thomas the Apostle in Smyrna. An inurnment with the burying of Cheryl's ashes will follow the Mass. A Celebration of Life in Atlanta is being planned for next spring to honor Cheryl's rich life and generous works.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the non-profits that enriched Cheryl's life:

I interacted with Cheryl many times while working at Fulton County Animal Services. She was a very dedicated volunteer and I admired that. It was so nice to see her smiling face and positive attitude. She also had a great sense of humor and was all in all great to be around. Rest in peace Cheryl.
