Christopher John Ryan
Christopher John Ryan, known affectionately as Chris, passed away on September 5, 2024 at the age of 67 in
Los Lunas, New Mexico. Born on February 14, 1957 in Jamestown, New York, he grew throughout his life into a figure cherished for his caring and humorous nature, respected and loved by all who knew him.
Chris attended Salpointe Catholic High School, graduating in 1975 and was drum major before embarking on a significant career in the transportation industry. He was not only a driver but also an owner/operator, later Safety Director of the Owner Operator Division of Swift Transportation, and dedicated eighteen years as the Albuquerque New Mexico Terminal Manager. Many said Swift blue coursed through his veins in the 31 years he devoted to the organization. His commitment to safety and excellence left a lasting impression on his colleagues and the industry.
Family was the cornerstone of Chris's life. He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Dawn Colt in 2016; his father, Edward Joseph Ryan in 2017; his mother, Eleanor Louise Ryan in 2018 and his brother-in-law, Robert N Burden in 2024. His loss is deeply felt by his surviving family members and friends who remember him as a pillar of strength and kindness. Surviving family members include his beloved daughters, Eileen Marie Lewis (Andrew), Colleen Anna Farber-Footland (Kyle); his sisters, Kathleen Burden (deceased Robert "Bob" Burden) and Jen Nash (Jack); brothers, Joseph Edward Ryan (Catherine), Timothy Patrick Ryan (Michaelene); and his devoted wife, of 29 years, Fran. Also surviving him are eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Chris's memory to Swift Charities, an organization he supported. His legacy of generosity and compassion will continue through the acts of kindness he inspired in others.
