Cirignani, Nick J.
Nick J. Cirignani, 72, passed away May 25, 2021 of complications from heart surgery. Nick grew up near Grand and Ogden Ave., "the Patch", near downtown Chicago. He graduated from St. Philip Basilica High School and soon after began working for the Chicago & North Western Railroad. It was a great place to work (we called it the "gravy train") and Nick kept working on the railroad for 36 years. His wife, Lydia, also worked for the C & NW and they met at the Caboose, the bar just next to the C & NW lobby. After a few weeks, some verbal jousting and several drinks, they finally went out and that was that. They moved to Cloud 10 and stayed there for 33 years. Nick was a dedicated grill master and often had 3 or 4 Weber charcoal grills set up like timpani drums, with a different entree on each. Sometimes he used a smoker too and of course had all the accessories - the pizza rack and lid, the rotisserie attachment, and the you name it, to make anything and everything. When he met Helga, his Viking gas grill, there were no limits. Nicky loved music more than most and would often park right in front of the speakers with the volume set to max and then fall asleep! Nicky always did say, "I sleep the sleep of the just". And so he sleeps now, after a good life and a brave fight. Rest well, Nicky. Services private. Memorials may be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls
