Nick was a consummate professional soldier and had a tender heart. I always enjoyed my time on the range with him and training others... and of course, the afterhour story telling over beers - he was a great story teller. He will be missed by all. I'm personally shocked by this news. RIP, brother. My condolences to Nick's family, friends, and those who served alongside him in the military and L/E.

I served with Nick since 1998, first in the Recon Platoon and then in Special Forces. Nick was a fair, reasonable and dedicated friend and soldier; he will be missed by all.

Stunned to hear the news. Burt fell out of touch with Nick after ILEAS for awhile. He attempted contact several times. We were blessed to meet Nick´s family at a lasagna (we think) cook off one year.
A colorful and generous soul. He brought us to tears more than once with his story telling.
Deepest condolences to his family, friends and fellow LEOs.
